WHEW! Excellent! Your vet sounds terrific and really on top of things, what a great person to have on your team. Give a big smooch to Oscar, we are rootin' for him (and you too! hang in there).

Thank you so much guys. You're so sweet and your comments will never go unforgotten.

For the past 2 hours, I've been worried about him. With this bacteria thing in his leg, with 3 weeks of treatments, and with him unable to sit up for a long time, etc. I called both doctors that have really been treating him. (One takes care of him Monday - Wednesday) The other takes care of him Thursday through Saturday.

The 2 doctors said to me this week, "I'm really fighting for him, after everything I feel like he's partially my dog now." I've had their personal phone numbers and email in case any problems come up.

Anyways.... Last Wednesday, I received a call from the doctor that owns the vet. He was treating him that morning. He said, "JJ, I think you've been given a rat, he's just suffering and I think he's in too much pain to keep him going. Please come to the office asap." So we went. The doctor was gone, already left for the day.

The doctor (the one that treats him Mon-Wednesday) gave us the alternatives. This is just after the diagnosis of Vasculitis. I asked her if there were any other alternatives before putting him down without keeping him suffering. That's when they started him on the steroids.

Within 2 days the bleeding stopped, the bruising went away, his liver counts came back to normal.

Now, he has this bacteria going on in his rear leg joint.

Anyways, exactly 3 weeks ago today, he was released from surviving the Parvo.

A week and a half ago today, he's survived the Vasculitis.

Now, he has this bacteria going on. They said it's a side effect of the steroid.

Oscar can sit up, but only for a couple minutes. In his puppy bed, he just lays perfectly still, but I roll him over every couple of hours.

So, anyways... I called both doctors about an hour ago and asked, "Do you think that we're putting Oscar through things he just cannot do? Do you think he's suffering too much and we should end it? etc." They both said no. He's certainly a fighter. Let's take it day by day. If his body continues to improve, the swelling in the joint goes down, he'll be back to normal in no time."

What he's going through is just tearing me up. It's so hard on me. He's 12 wks old, he doesn't need this. I want to see him run, play, chew up things like puppies do, just to be a puppy who loves life. He can't do those things.

But, for a  doctor saying "Don't give up on him." It feels that he's going to make it. As long as he's eating and drinking on his own even if it's a bite, and he's crying when they give him his shots, and is moving about, he's going to make it through.

So, I'm just really worried today.

Sounds like you have every reason to be so worried but it also sounds like there is alot of hope here within yourself and those vets!

I know it is so hard to know when to keep fighting and when to let go, many of us have had that struggle.

I too am going to hope that this is just part of the journey to Oscar becomming a healthy and happy puppy. I hope some day soon he can run, jump, play and have all of those puppy adventures!  You guys deserve to have them!

Healing wishes Oscar!

I don't even know what to say other than my heart goes out to you.  It especially goes out to Oscar, a floppy eared little terrier in which I now have a soft spot for.

If the vet feels he is a fighter, then perhaps this is a case where you have to trust the vet and hope your vet will give you the answer.

I'm thankful that you are prepared to not let him suffer.

I had Comet who was a handicapped little dog with many, many ailments and had a rough start also.  I always feared the worst.  But I wouldn't change the 12 years we spent together.  She made me a better person.

Sending you lots of hugs.

Thank you so much.

Oscar was making sounds of pain (crying, wimpering, etc.), I called his doctor... He said meet me at the Vet, leave now. Got there, he gave him a pain shot. He also looked at his joint. He said the next 48 hours are in fact crucial. If his joint doesn't heal in 48 hours, we'll have to put him to sleep. He said he's on 3 different anti-biotics. Demorex and 2 others. He said 2 of them is a pill once daily. The other is once every 12 hours. He said if you give him the 12 hour one at like 11:27AM, give it to him immediately at 11:27PM, same with the 2 24 hour ones. It may help him along with a possible turn around.

2 doctors are saying they've exhausted all options. There are none left. Wednesday afternoon will be 48 hours. IF there is a decrease in the joint swelling even the most minimal amount, they'll continue him on the antibiotics. If it's the same and no improvement or it worsens then we'll have to put him to sleep.

I feel optimistic because he's already fought off 2 things and he's still trying to fight this off and he was just walking yesterday morning.
I feel putting him to sleep is the right thing to end this suffering.
But, my fingers are crossed that at tomorrow's apt in 12 hours from now at 9AM (PST) they'll see improvement.

It just hurts so much because he's been poked, prodid, fought for his life once, he's been through hell and back and now this. All we can do is hope it gets better. If not, at least we'll know he's not suffering anymore. I hate talking like this but if he doesn't battle through this, at least I can say he's had a wonderful almost month of happiness here and a great super terrific spoiling first week. He got to run, play, have fun with the other dogs the first week. But I feel he's going to come through, I just have that gut feeling. It's not being selfish, it's like an instinct.

But right now, I'm giving him as much love as I possibly can. I'm spending as much time as possible with him rather than leaving him in a room that's dark and gloomy by himself. Tonight, I'm taking him to bed with me in my bed - he sleeps in a dog bed I got for him with a potty pad. This way if the worse does come, I can say I loved on him so much.

I'll keep you posted. Please cross your fingers.

Well.... Oscar is in a better place now. Exactly 20 mins ago at 11:40AM (PST) we made the hardest decision to put him to rest from suffering and pain.

The septic joint issue quickly spread to 3 of his other joints over night and had we not done this, it would have ended up taking his life through pain and suffering.

He will be missed so much! I'm just a wreck so I'll end this post with this.

You all are angels. I feel so great that all of you posted something and took the time out of your personal lives to read and reply to my messages and this will never go unforgotten. Thank you, all of you. Your wonderful. I'm just very appreciative of your thoughts and comments. Thank you! From my heart, thank you!

Oh, I'm so sad.  I am so, so, so sorry.

It was your love and devotion that made his little short life wonderful.  Bless you for giving him everything a dog could ask for and doing so much!  He left this world knowing how loved he was.

I hope you know that even though the outcome wasn't as you wanted, him finding you and you finding him was meant to be.

He is running, playing and tearing up every thing in his path as a puppy should do in puppie heaven!

Many hugs to you.
