That's right, you can't assume the worst and it's good you aren't beating yourself up over how it happened. Who knows, she may have been practicing her Super Dog maneuvers and it just happened!
BUT now she yelps if we try to put a collar on her or near her incision… At what point does that insecurity/mistrust go away???
7 Days Post surgery is still a short time period on the recovery. I doubt it's mistrust but more surgery la-la land. I'm sure she is sore and still has drugs in her that is making her scared, unsure and just plain goofy. (surgery makes us all that way, even with humans!)
Hang tough! It's going to be a lot easier here very soon!
Comet's mom
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh gosh, what a mysterious way to become a Tripawd. Assuming is bad, you know how that saying goes. But you've definitely got the right attitude; move on and don't let the past run the show. Milkshake's teaching you well.
Glad to hear the screaming's gone away. I agree with Comet; 7 days is not a lot of time. I would say take it slow and bust out with the treats while you gently try to put her collar on. The insecurity will go away in time when she realizes nothing bad is going to happen whenever you get close. Just keep those treats handy.
Love the story behind her name. Keep us posted on things!
