Ana--
Oh, Docent is so beautiful. And he looks like he's doing pretty good! Tika is a rear amp and it took her about a month before she figured out laying on her amputee side.
Even though she's a girl, she always had the habit of lifting her leg like a boy dog. Has Docent had the rather amusing (kinda scary the first time) of trying to go potty and forgetting that there's only one leg back there? Tika took it all in stride, even though I about had a heart attack.
As he gets stronger his remaining back leg will get really muscular and beefy, I'm amazed how big Tika's is.
Good luck, I hope Docent's recovery continues to go smoothly!

thanks!
The only problem we have is his behavior in the evening. I can't understand what is happening. During the whole day he's just fine and after 9 p.m. he can't find a place to lay down, barking, a bit peeping. Why does he suffer in the evening? Maybe You can advise sth?:/
Maybe he over extends himself during the day and it takes a toll on him in the evening? He looks like he's letting nothing interrupt his routine!

I agree with hugapitbull, it's the daytime activities catching up with him. We've seen it before here. Try to help him pace himself in the afternoon, and good calming massages also help in the evening. Good luck!

Dear Ana,
Beautiful pictures! Docent and Moja are both beautiful. Is Docent's leg still trembling at night? If it is you might want to consider massaging it lightly to see if you can get the muscle to relax. Emily is a back leg amputee and recoered very wuickly. Like Docent she had not been using her other back much before surgery and I think that made walking on three legs easier after the surgery. I know it is next to impossible to try to limit activity but do try. Emily now has hip dysplasia and I fear it was aggravated by her full out running and jumping onto the trampoline. Also, I wish I had started her on a joint supplement like Glucosamine Chondroitin.
I am not familiar with luxating patilla. Sorry if I spelled it wrong. Are Docent's health problems over now that he has had an amputation. I sure hope so.
Thanks for being so good at updating. Paws crossed and prayers said for you and your sweet baby.
Debra & Emily
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
Dear Debra,
thank you for the complements. Concerning evenings – now everything is OK;) He sleeps well even on the operated side:) He's doing 3 walks per day, each one 15-20 minutes – don't know if it's much? I'm watching him, trying to let him show me if he's enough. Did Emma get hip dysplasia after her surgery or before???
Luxating patella is a knee problem, so now it's gone (http://rysiek.w.....ess.com/ca.....materialy/ I tried to show it in my film, on my webside).
All the best:)
Ana
hope You will enjoy watching the movie:)
If You want You can add it to Your youtube channel, showing how tripawds can manage on 3 legs:))
