Hello everyone,

Maya is my 3 1/2 year old Husky/German Shep. On December 15th, she was hit by a car and suffered a compound fracture of her lower tibia. When I found her sitting on the front porch, I knew she wanted me to help her..and I could never watch my baby suffer. Here are a few graphic pics of her wound early on, and through the progression you can see that our bandaging worked fairly well...the bones just wouldn't heal back together. I will also post probably a billion pics after her surgery which will be on 1/3/2013

Thanks for reading!

My dog just had a front leg amputated on Friday 12/28, so looks like our dogs will be recovering at the same time.  I'm so glad you were able to help her!

this was her leg when I found her on 12/15/2012.

It was awful, and although we tried our very best to get enough of the wounds to heal, it just didnt work :(

Oh poor pup, you two have been through a lot together. This experience is ruff but your pack will be even stronger after she recuperates. I hope today's surgery went well, keep us posted.

What a beautiful pup Maya is.  I am glad surgery went well.  The incision looks great.  Your vet did a wonderful job.  I am sure Maya will do wonderfully on three legs.  You will be amazed at how quickly they adapt and just get on with their lives.  Wishing Maya a speedy recovery and please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Thanks everyone!

She's doing really great, except for when her cone bumps into her incision :(

Here's a pic of her when I got home from work a few minutes ago...disregard the demon eyes, they are really quite pretty in person.

She looks so strong! What a great welcome home.

I also think her weight looks fabulous. She will do fine as a Tripawd.

thanks!

Yea we've always kept her sort of trim,

unless she runs off and steals cornbread from the neighbors :/

But she's so active that i cant even get her fat on high energy food and maintenance formula wouldnt cut it cause she looked like skin and bones

Aww she really is a cutie!

Let us know how this week goes, I'm sure she's already going bananas with the confinement.

She looks great.  Her inscision looks nice.  The bruising is normal.  It will go away after a couple of weeks maybe less.

She is a cutie.

Maya Update: Day 6.

She's a lot less screamy since last night and I took her to the vet today for a few more days worth of rimadyl and she's really getting around great! Just not sure how long she'll have to wear the cone of shame ..i think she hates that worse than anything.
