Our 12 yr. old jack has been my best dog friend since he picked me out at a month old. He and I were alone for 4 years until I met my wife.
As he has gotten older he has always been a very healthy fun loving dog. 2 years ago he started getting lumps on his legs and stomach and one
In particular was growing on his left hind leg between the knee joint. I took him to get it tested and the vet told me it was a tumor my heart sank
But I had to wait to see the test results before a course of action was taken. The test came back as Hemangiopericytoma a locally but very invasive
Type of tumor. We decided to do operate and get as much as possible as not to damage his leg. Afterwards the now retired vet told us that he
Was sucessful in getting it. Well 2 years went by when I noticed a lump in the area of the surgery. It seemed to grow larger by the week. I took
Him to a new vet to find out what to do. She did a test and dang it it the tumor had now returned but this time it had multiplyed times 3. This vet did
Surgery and was not able to get it all because it was so spider legged. The doctor then told me we might want to amputate to get it all.
This time it would not heal right and separating the stitches and opening a 6 x 8 open wound. I was very angry that this Dr. Could not fix his
Leg. I was referred to a surgeon who specialized in soft tissue and other stuff. After the exam he gave me the bad news hr could go in and
Try to get more tumor and close the wound but if I did not get radiation treatment at a cost of 10,000 the surgery would be ulsess.
The other option was amputation. We all cried for a couple of days trying to decide what to do. The help from this site was amazing
And helped me decide to amputate. The surgery took place 24 hrs. Ago. I got to visit on thurs. afternoon and to my surprise he was walking
On three legs a bit shakey but he was doing it. I will post pics and progress if I can.
THANK YOU TRIPAWDS you have made a difference to me in this one of the toughest times of my life.

Welcome Christopher and Jack! Wishing Jack a speedy and uneventful recovery!
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Welcome to you and your pup (is his name Jack, or is he a Jack Russell named Maximus?). Congrats on successful surgery! As soon as he's fully recovered, he'll begin to amaze and inspire you! It is a wonderful thing to be a Tripawd Pawrent. You are now a member of a super special club, so don't let anyone tell you it's a bad thing!
We're here if you have any questions during the recovery. Recovery can be rough cuz the pups can act very weird from all the meds (don't be surprised if he seems "depressed") but once the meds are done and the staples are out, he should be pretty much back to his old self. Then it's just a matter of building his stamina back up, and he'll be his old self!
Keep us posted!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Oh, I'm so happy your boy is doing well (now)! Looking forward to the pics!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
It's funny that in losing a leg, our pups gain a new lease on life. i hope your senior is running circles around you real soon!
Best,
Beth, Spirit Smilin' Sammy and MB Wiggly Wrigleyt
Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
