Thanks Jerry. I am keeping a pretty close eye on him. We never leave home alone, even overnight my daughter has been sleeping on the couch in the family room where his kennel is just in case he needs anything. He seems to be comfortable with the meds he's on now but we'll see as time goes on. The sedative is more to keep him calm which is why we only give him some at night, we noticed he gets really restless and with the cone he doesn't have a lot of space.
I did want to mention, as I am sure you will all understand, he pooped today. First time since Friday...talk about a relief for both of us. LOL
I was reading up on the rehab exercises posted here and talked to my daughter about it. She is all for helping me with those and working on his strength. We'll wait a bit until he gets his cone off before we start but I think between the two of us we can do it. She has been a huge help with him and is really into training him. If you have teens or had them you understand how big a deal this is....
He did get snappy with all of us last night, about an hour before he was due for his next does of meds so we will keep an eye on that as well. Overall I'm happy with how he is doing so far.
YAAAAY FOR 💩💩💩 WE LOVE TO CELEBRATE. 💩💩!!
And getting a little "snappy" an hour before his next dose probably was pain related. And o ce pain gets ahead start it's harder to catch up. So check with your Vet about doing the doses a little closer together.
And your daughter Santa surely will be extra good to her her this year!

Oh yeah we get the big event after coming home! YAY!
I don't have teenagers but I have teenage nieces and totally get it. One of my nieces was really into dog agility when she was in high school, like obsessed with it, so yeah it's great that your daughter wants to help. Here's a great e-book about Tripawd Health and Fitness you two may want to check out. And in a couple weeks we will be announcing a new vet-approved home rehab therapy program for Tripawd dogs, so stay tuned for that announcement!

Wooohoo! I'm so thrilled that he's giving out smooches again! Please tell him to send some our way, 'cause we're sending them to him too!

This week has been a whirlwind around here.
We are one week post amputation and you would almost think nothing happened. The vet says his incision is healing nicely, his hair is growing back, he has a snazzy new bed, no cone and is allowed outside in the backyard without a leash (supervised of course).
We have increased our walks to fully around the block and he still want to keep going, his strength doesn't seem to be lagging as he can still pull me around like before (he's always been a puller despite obedience training).
Sunday i accidentally left the basement door open when checking laundry and someone decided that he could go down the stairs. Surprise...Mom. Getting back up was a different story and we had to call Dad for help. Yesterday, much to my chagrin he went up the stairs to bed on his own and back down this morning with no issues. Personally I think it's too soon but I am losing the battle against my hubby and Marley so I do my best during the day to keep him relaxed and calm. He seems to like his snuffle mat but so does his sister though so need to watch for competition there.
Most days he is happy and you would almost never know anything had happened. I'm amazed and grateful that his recovery has been going so well.
We love hearing updates like this! Reading how well Marley is doing makes me grin ear to ear!😁
Love the stubborn streak he's showing with sich a "I can do this" attitude!! I think. I think Marley and yoir husband are in cahoots!
You're doing a great job, even of "the boys" are trying to misbehave!

Marley the Mischievous, you are my hero! After all you've been through and you're do so well now, well that's remarkable and makes our hearts hoppy!
Just be careful out there buddy. Take it slow so you're around for a long, long time OK? I know you don't want your mama to keep walks short but it really is for your benefit. Maybe she can add in some interactive brain games after your shorter walks to help you wear out safely?

It’s been a bit as things got busy around here
Marley’s incision has healed up nicely and he is off pain meds. He loves the snuffle mat and is still going down stairs fine.
We seem to be having a bit of a setback that I will have to call the vet about tomorrow though. He seems to be in some pain with his remaining hind leg. He’s lost his appetite for the most part, doesn’t want to play anymore ( he was just getting back to it last week) and has been snappy again when I tried to put some paw balm on his rear paw. He’s been moving slowly again and doing really long leg stretches. Freaked my hubby out tonight with the position he had his leg in stretching. He also only sleeps on the side that still has the leg so I think it is putting a lot of pressure on it even with the orthopaedic bed.
He took a couple short walks over the last couple days but then crashes in front of the fireplace. He was doing so well that I hate to see him so down now. My poor boy is just not himself right now.
Glad Marley's incision is healed and doing well (excluding this little setback).

Coi0le of thoughts. How long was his "short" walk? It's so easy to tweak a muscle this early on in recovery. It's not always apparent if a tweak is a leg issue or maybe even a back issue. It does spun d like Marley is in pain so I'm really glad you're getting him to the Bet tomorrow. Not eating and being "snappy" are pain signs.
If he will let you, massage up and down his spine, his shoulders. It almost seems as thpugh he"@ having some sort of leg cramps the way you are described the leg stretch.
Let is know what the Vet says, okay?
