Hi Everyone!

I've been meaning to post… been a little busy with 3 kids, our latest one arriving just two weeks after Marley's amputation!

Our Marley (my “first child”) is doing fabulous - 12 yr old chocolate lab, amputation of left hind leg Feb 9th, diagnosed with hystiocytic sarcoma, prognosis was 4-6 months, have been doing chemo (andriamycin) every 3 weeks, 5th one due next tues, all ultrasounds, xrays have been clear! We are so pleasantly surprised. She gets along so well on 3 legs it's amazing. She was running on the beach on Sunday - if you glanced at her you'd never know she was missing a leg! And she'll be 13 in Sept!

The adriamycin (sp?) supposedly only has a 20% effective rate. We're feeding her hamburg, brown rice, ground up broccoli, spinach and/or kale, tomato sauce (antioxidants!), canned chicken, and spot stew (whole foods). We've also been giving her K-9 immunity , transfer factor, and the fish oil that you can order with it. Surprisingly our vet oncologist has never asked us what we're feeding her - I can't imagine it isn't a factor in how well she is doing! She started limping off and on back in October…

Anyway, thanks again to all of you who were there for us when we went through the agony of deciding whether to amputate and dealing with recovery (so not as bad as we thought it would be!).

Again, what an amazing site and group of people you all are!

Best,

Holly, Kevin and Marley

Hey it's so great to hear from you. A little busy is right! Wow, congratulations on the new baby and Marley's awesome recovery! Yah! We really appreciate the update, it gives a lot of hope to those who find themselves right where you were just a few months ago.

It's not too surprising that your vet oncologist hasn't asked about her diet. It seems that even in conventional human medicine, doctors don't give a lot of attention to diet even when a person is diagnosed with cancer. Doctors, both human and animal, don't get more than a few hours of nutrition studies during the course of their education.

By taking the extra step to learn about cancer diets and proper nutrition, you are giving Marley a great life, and helping others along the way. Thank you so much.

Wooo hoo for you and Marley! Yeah! Keep us posted, and know that we are all wishing you the best and thinking of you!

Wonderful news to hear Marley is doing so well.  You must be a busy mom with Marley and a new baby to keep you running.  Hope you and the baby are well, and that Marley has many more ampuversaries to share.

GO MARLEY!!! Whi Hoo!!!

Happy Ampuversary - it's very exciting and we are thrilled to hear that Marley is doing so well. Congrats on the new baby...you have your hands full eh?

We wish you many, many, MANY more ampuversaries. We love to hear about senior dogs doing so well - I think some people are concerned about how well their babies will do if they are older (I was in the beginning - Zeus was 10 at surgery time and is now 11). Hearing these successes will surely help others who will unfortunately be faced with this horrible disease and the difficult decision about whether or not to amputate.

Keep on hopping!

Much love,

Heather and Zeus
