I'm (Marion) the caretaker of Maggie, a 11 year old seasoned senior Golden Retriever, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma last week. My wife and I had a second opinion from another vet, and talked with her family (they are stationed in England) then proceeded to schedule the amputation. Her operation was tuesday, 25 Feb. I was shocked when she out of the vet's office. I had to adjust my picture of her, since the operation. I've known her since she was a puppy.
It's been only a few days, but she is getting back to her routine of eating, going outside and being with the family. These past couple of years, we have ran together and every night fetched the ball in the back yard. Now it looks like she is adjusting to her new situation. It seems like she still thinks, she has her missing leg.
I'm so happy that I found this website.
God Bless, Marion

Welcome! It's so hard to see them after the amputation... It's been a week for us and it's still hard for me to look at him and know he'll never be what I've always known him as... BUT they are resilient! Much more than we would be and they will do just fine Take care of yourself too.. as I'm learning and many other tripawds parents have shared, it's harder on us then them sometimes. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Cody is our 7 year old Australian Heeler mix boy. Diagnosed on 2/20/14 and became a tripawd 2/21/14! We chose a homeopathic approach and he is being treated by Dr. Loops our of NC.

Welcome Marion and Maggie! We were fortunate in that Libby's amp site wrapped when we picked her up but it was a little stomach turning when the bandages were removed.
I'm glad Maggie is adjusting well. You will once again play fetch in the backyard with your furry friend, it just takes some time for healing. Good luck to you all.
Amy & Libby
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
You will be amazed in no time how quick the surgery incision heals. My Bailey had right amp. on 2/7/14 had a few bumps in the road with meds because she is super sensitive to everything but her surgery incision looks great. She is getting around really well and actually has figured out how to roll her favorite blanket so she can carry it. She' a 7 year old great dane. Never give up hope. This site is wonderful. You would be surprised that your babies will be running by you maybe not nearly as the distance you use to but she will run...
