Layla has had a long journey, but I am happy to say we have reached the end. Layla was hit by a car early October, her front left leg was badly broken. The Vet set it and cast it. A week later when we went to have the cast removed they found that gangrene had eaten her leg, they did emergency surgery to remove the leg. She was sent home on a friday, and on sunday we found that her skin was being eaten away. She was taken in Monday and they said it looked grim, she was then in another operating room to remove gangrene, but it had gone into her chest cavity and they could not perform surgery in there. They then did another surgery to put a flushing tube inside of her, they flushed her with antibiotics for a week straight. When we went to get the tube and stitches out, they found that the skin was not closing like they wanted it to and they needed to stretch her for more skin. Today she went in for surgery to remove her scapula so they could stretch more skin. This is the end of our road. The just called and said everything went perfect. They got enough skin and she did wonderful, she is a little rough coming off the drugs so they are keeping her over night. We will be getting her tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. Our weekend will be a little rough with her recovery, but we were told no more surgeries. Layla has faced 4 surgeries in less than a month, she is the strongest puppy I know. I cannot than our vet enough, and all of you bloggers. Your support and advice has greatly helped my family and I. I cannot thank everyone enough. To look back and think we were going to lose our girl, is a horrible think to think about. Glad we are now at a "normal" place. Thanks to all! Updates still to come!
Oh hooray! So glad to hear that she pulled through all that! What an amazingly strong pup indeed. Hope you have a restful weekend! You all deserve it.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Hooray for Layla! What a strong girl! Get some rest and take care of yourself!

If one can be happy to have a new tripawd, I am happy Layla isn't fighting cancer. She should be able to live a worry free life on three legs. I know this is a great load off your mind. Get some rest and take care of that beautiful girl.

Thank you all...Well we had another vet visit at 8 this morning, but for once there was nothing actually wrong. Her swelling had gone down and loosened the sutures, which led to the incision opening up. Of course worrisome me took her in as soon as they opened. To my great surprise they said it was all ok! Looks like the skin wants to heal on its own, without too much help from the stitches! So thankful for that good news! Hoping to have the stitches out in 10 days and be over all this and on with her life!
Alright everyone I also tried a blog to see if I could share pictures, if someone could try it out and see if they see them, because they aren't working for me...hope it works. When I have more time it will be more in depth.
I am not seeing the pictures either. I'm not a blogger, so I don't have any suggestions.

Awe, what a beauty! Glad to hear her vet visit was uneventful. It is quite common for new tripawd pawrents to be stressed and anxious during the recovery period. It is hard to relax when everything you have known has changed. It gets easier as time goes on.

Yeah if we hadn't had so much trouble with her I may have been a little more relaxed. It just seemed like it was one thing after another. She is the most expensive free dog ever! But she is worth it. We are thinking about getting her into becoming a therapy dog. She is the perfect pup for it, visit like children's hospitals and stuff. She'd love all the attention!
