Hello everyone, just wanted to let you know that I had my first chemo on 4/29/08.  So far so good, no side effects.  I went for my CBC test yesterday and they called today to let my pawrents know that they were borderline to make sure they kept an eye on me, especially to check my temperature (yeah joy!!!!) every day and call if I get any fever.  I have to go back next Monday to do another test but we are hopping that one will be better.  I feel okay and want to play but my mom knows that right now I better not overdo it so I get only a short time of playtime which is fine.  If everything turns okay I will go for my 2nd chemo on Monday the 19th.  Will keep you posted.....lots of licks to everyone!!!!  Laughing

Thanks for the update Kellie! Glad you're feeling well after your treatment. Just so we all know, what kind of chemotherapy are you getting?

And what's a CBC test? Is that what my people call bloowork? I had another checkup today after a month of "low-dose" Cytoxan oral chemo, and they say my blood looks great! Easy for them to say, they're not the one getting stuck in the throat with needles.

Hey Kellie & Isabel.

In case of an upset tummy, canned pureed pumpkin helps restore diaria or constipation... Also pepcid... better to be prepared. Remember to wear gloves!! Keep me posted.

Don't you wish our doggies could somehow tell us how they feel about what going on?...

Isabel, you are a good Mommie to Kellie!! Buster sends xoxo

Hey guys, I am doing and feeling good.  Today when my mom got home from work and let me out I ran and played with my super size tennis ball for a little while.  Jerry, you are correct the CBC test is the bloodwork to check the blood cell count and make sure it is at a level where they can give me my next chemo.  After they called to say it was borderline, you know my mom, she got her nose in one of her books and found out that echinacea and goldenseal is good to boost the white blood cells so yep I am getting some of that too.  Will let you know how that goes after my next bloodwork on Monday.  Lots of licks....

Goldenseal and echinacea huh? How does your Mom give it to you? In food? And how did she know how much?

Hi Kellie - glad to hear that you are doing well on your treatment Laughing

I bet your Mum will find that your levels will move back from borderline to near normal, by the time you have your next test (because you've moved further and further away from the time you got the chemo drugs in your system).  That's what used to happen to me anyway Laughing

Hey guys, tomorrow is bloodwork day so I will know whether my count is better or not.  As for the Echinacea my mom figured that if the human dose was to take 2 tablets 2 to 4 times a day that if she gave me 1 tablet 2 times a day it would not over due it.  As I do not like to take any type of tablet, or gel cap....she crushes the horse tablet (yep they are huge) and mixes it in my food.  The tablets have echinacea, goldenseal, garlic.  She read that ginseng is also good to boost the immune system.  They have been watching my temperature very closely also (yep the things we let our pawrents do to make them happy).  So far it has been good.  I hope that you are all doing well and that all the mommies had a great day today.  Lots of licks...

P.S.  Sorry Jerry forgot to tell you that they are giving me carboplatin for my chemo via IV.  I usually go in the morning and stay there for most of the day, not because it takes that long (takes maybe 20 mins for the treatment) but because the vet wants to keep me there for a bit after the treatment is over and make sure that I do not have any reactions and that I do okay.

Hello gang!  This is absolutely so amazing.  Jerry thanks for sharing my video on the website.  My visit to the vet went very well and my bloodwork came back good so that means my second chemo comes on Monday.  I am ready for it and so are my pawrents.  They make sure I eat well and get my supplements to keep my immune system in good shape.  They also make sure that I get some playtime so that I can exercise and get some sunshine so life is good.  You are all my best buddies and I love you all.

Hello gang!  Just wanted to let you know that the vet decided not to give me my chemo today.  My dad took me this morning and they did some bloodwork before the session.  It seems that my white blood cell count is still a bit borderline so the vet decided to wait one more week for my next chemo.  He feels that eventhough my count is good enough for the treatment that he rather give me an extra week and try to get up a bit more.  So, yep I guess I will be extra pampered this week to make sure that I boost my immune system.  Willl keep you posted! Wink

Your vet sounds really great Kellie.

Did he recommend anything to help raise your white blood cell count? Like any kinds of foods you can eat?
