Hi Everyone!
Jett has been scheduled for surgery on Saturday at Helping Hangs. We will most likely seek after care at Veterinary Referral and Critical Care in Manakin-Sabot. We are nervous yet grateful for all of the support from tripawds. I am getting my apartment ready for his return. I hope to post some pics soon!

I'm so glad Dr. Pasternak will be taking care of Jett! You are in good hands.I have not found an overnight care facility for him. I am wondering if my option is just to show up at an veterinary ER with him. This part makes me nervous.
Did you ask Helping Hands to refer you to one? I know they work with some in the area and should be able to arrange his overnight stay as long as you drive him. Don't show up unless they know you are coming.
If for some reason you cannot get him to an overnight clinic, you can certainly care for him yourself at home. It's not easy but Helping Hands will give you good instructions on how to care for him.
Hi Jerry - I think we are going to try Veterinary Referral and Critical Care. I read a really good review from someone in the exact situation as me on yelp. Helping Hands gave me 2 options with VRCC being one of them.
Whew! So glad you've got this figured out! Keep us posted and let us know what questions you have before the big day.

VRCC is a good choice!!
I have a lot of first-hand experience with them and have always been pleased with the level of care they provide. Had cruciate repair surgery for my tripawd Frankie done by my regular veterinarian, I took him to vrcc for aftercare for the first night.
Frankie also had tplo surgery done there, as well as spending four nights and five days there for an overdose of rimadyl. So yeah, I'm real familiar with vrcc and highly recommend them!
Stay connected and let us know how we can help. We are here by your side the whole way.
Hugs

Hi Shakira! I think you wrote in an earlier post that Jett weighs 12 lbs. Yes, you will be able to carry him and you can ask the vet to show you how to do it to avoid putting pressure on his incision. At some point down the road, you may want to invest in a stroller if you will be out for long walks that would be too taxing for Jett, but that is not something you should need for making it to your apartment. If you are hesitant to carry him, a pet carrier bag would work and would be a lot less expensive. I'm so glad that you figured everything out with Jett's surgery and overnight care - you are a great advocate for Jett! Keep asking questions as you prepare your home for a tripawd - someone here will always have good advice! Sending hugs to you and Jett! Stacy
Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com
Stacy’s advice is spot on!

Hi Shakira! The link to the photos does not appear to be working. I know Jett was scheduled for surgery yesterday, so when you have a moment, please update us. I hope everything went smoothly with the surgery and moving Jett to the critical care overnight facility. Sending you hugs! ~ Stacy

Hello everyone!
I have a few updates.
1. Jett had his left front leg amputated on 6/20/2020 at Helping Hands. Everything went well. They kept his bandage on while we transported him to VRCC. He cried the entire car ride. When we arrived at VRCC, they advised they will start him on a fentanyl IV and fluids. We got there around 8 pm.
2. Sunday morning I was advised to call by 9am if I did not hear from them. I called at 8:30 lol and asked for an update. Was told the doctor had an emergency and they would call me back. At 10am no call so I call back and the receptionist transferred me to the doctor who only said Jett ate and did well. Pick could be after 11:30am. My mom and I got there at 11:30am. We got paperwork and they forgot one of his meds and his cone. I was so annoyed with them. I took him in the grass and he peed for what seemed like 45 seconds or eternity. We asked if they took him and out the nurse said yes they walked him last night. I'm like "walked"???!!!! The way he peed there is no way I believed her. She was clueless about him. She could not answer any of my questions confidently. When did he eat or last get meds? She had to ask when did he come in......The only part of the process that was good was when the doctor asked me questions about him and told me the cost hmph!
3. Jett is at home now resting a lot. He developed seroma yesterday around his belly. I am calling his vet today so she can remove his bandage or at least check it. He drank A LOT of water and ate a little chicken breast to take his meds. Carrying him has been stressful. He is not a mobile as I expected. I have to be patient with him. I got a dog carrier which I will use in my car hopefully. He has peed a lot but not pooped as yet. Should I be concerned?
4. I somewhat figured out how to post pics! Thanks for noticing I was struggling.
