Hi everyone. I've lurked here for awhile, but I suppose I've never really introduced myself or my dog, Jack. I'm Jill...Jack's name started out as a joke and ended up sticking.
Jack came to me as a puppy with a crooked leg from a rescue. We've tried correcting it a few times and our last attempt ended in failure; the vet and I decided that amputation was the best course. He went into surgery yesterday and came home today. I've gone through such a range of emotion, but I think the main one has been relief. It's so good to just not have to deal with this any more and to be absolutely sure that Jack is now pain free (or will be once everything is completely healed).
We've got a lot ahead of us but I'm not worried about what's going to come...this place has so much information and everyone is so supportive here...that's really made the difference, I think. 🙂
I have more at Jack's blog, including pictures, http://jackjack.....ome-today/
We'll take it day by day like everyone else, although I won't lie...I am making one small plan. I think we can win the local Halloween costume event this year if Jack goes as a pirate... 😉
Editting to add! I didn't really introduce myself either...so focused on my amazing Tripawd. I'm a researcher at the University of Texas. Have a master's degree in endocrinology and working in a neurobiology lab at the moment...still trying to figure out what I want my PhD in (and pay off student loans). Jack has taken care of me from the moment I brought him home - from scaring off someone threatening to knock down our door in a bad apartment complex we lived in for a month to helping me make sure the sheep didn't escape their pens during feeding when I was in graduate school.
Jack - adopted with a crooked leg at 4 months old, managed for six years, and now much-happier Tripawd as of 5/24/2012!
I'm so very happy that he is doing so well! WOW! He looks like he didn't even have surgery! Keep us posted on how he is doing!
Thanks for coming over to the forums! As I mentioned before I had a crooked legged dog. Jack's leg reminded me of Comet's. I never amputated but like I said, it had no sensation.
Forgive us for falling in love with Jack for our personal reasons! Between him looking like our Angel Abby a bit and having a Comet leg - we can't resist!
Here's is a pic of Comet and Abby so you can see why:
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Glad to hear Jack is home - I hope the recovery goes well!
Cometdog, I also thought of Abby when I saw that picture. And Jill, to be compared to Comet and Abby is an outstanding compliment because those are two of the most awesome dogs ever!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Yep, soon as I saw Jack's avatar, I was in love! He really reminds me of my beautiful girl. And he's got a Comet leg! He sure seems like he must be a very special boy. (And hooray Jack for scaring off creepy people at the door!!)
Please give him some extra special lovin' from me,
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. HI Jack and pack,
I'm glad you came over to the forums to intoduce yourselves. He does look like Angle Abby!
Glad the surgery went well and Jack is back home with you. I bet he will adapt pretty quick since he has been dealing with the bad leg already. Hopefully he is one of the lucky pups that sail right through recovery.

Oh Jack you are a doll! I'm sorry you were born with a bum leg that brought you here, but yep, after you're all healed up, that old leg will be a thing of the past! Heck, our Tripawds Spokespup Wyatt Ray doesn't even remember his fourth leg (he lost it when he was 8 months old due to neglect by previous humans).
Well, just wanted to welcome you and let your Momma know that we are here to help if you need anything at all. We're so glad you started a blog, because it'll be a lot of fun following along with your adventures.
Oh, by the way...Go Longhorns! We're from TX and although we're escaping the heat in Colorado for summer, we'll be back in the fall and hope to meet you then. Are you in Austin?

Wow! Jack does look like Abby and that's such a strange coincidence that he and Comet shared a similar leg. 🙂 I'm glad that Comet's didn't bother her and I'm sorry that neither of them are with you now.
Thank you for all the well wishes.
And yep, we're in Austin! I'd love to meet you or anyone else in the area with a tripawd! 🙂 We also head to Las Cruces/Albuquerque, NM, pretty often for anyone in those areas.
