Hi everyone,
I came across this site after some Googling...!
My 10 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier had his front left leg amputated on Friday due to a tumour. I felt a little guilty putting him through surgery. 🙁 My guilt soon passed when I saw him navigating his way around with no problem. 🙂 The little bugger climbed the stairs the day after - my own fault for leaving the doors open. I didn't think he would even attempt it. I was wrong! I daren't let him climb them back down so I did carry the little lump. 🙂
Anyways, my reason for using Google was because he had built up some fluid just below the wound. Google told me it was normal and also linked me to this site - so HI! 🙂 I phoned through to the vets who put me through to the emergency vets to put across my worries and again they reassured me that this was quite common and should go down on it's own accord but to try a cold compress on him. We have a check up appointment with our own vet on Wednesday.
Oh, I have another doggy but he has 4 legs. Haha. A 7 year old Lurcher who has taken kindly to the changes to his best buddy!!

Welcome to Tripawds.
I'm sorry your pup faced amputation due to a tumor- what kind of cancer? And what is your boy's name?
He sounds like he is getting around OK so far. Don't be surprised if he has some down time- many of us experienced lots of ups and downs the first couple weeks after surgery. Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones and he sails right through.
You have found a very knowledgeable and supportive community here. Let us know if we can answer any questions.

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the video. I'll have a watch of that. 🙂
The fluid looks so unsightly so I was a little worried!
He's called Bruno - and it was bone cancer.
He'd actually slipped on the wooden flooring after a bath and then he started limping, I assumed from the slip. Couple of visits to the vets, each time coming home with painkillers they referred him for xrays. There they found the tumour. I never expected that at all! At the very worst I thought a broken toe or something. 🙁 Such a shock. The xrays were only on Tuesday and the amputation on Friday.
Here he his. 🙂 Taken the day after surgery.
And now.. a comfy boy. 😀
Welcome Bruno and family! Glad to see he is doing well after surgery.
Keep us posted on his recovery
PS: We have a place for your 4 legged Lurcher as well
The Monkeybutt Federation a site for all the neglected siblings of tripawds.
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Welcome to Bruno and pack! Sorry you had to find us here, but you won't be sorry you did. Lots of knowledgeable and supportive folks here. THey helped us so much when our Abby had bone cancer.
I know it can be pretty scary and overwhelming, but it sounds like he is doing well. There can still be lots of wonderful times ahead for you and your boy!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Hi Bruno and family! I am so sorry for the cruddy diagnosis - it's like a punch to the stomach when you get the news. Glad to hear Bruno is doing well so far. I know it is hard to see him like this but within a couple of weeks it will be so much better. Good luck with the rest of recovery.
Lisa and Zeus
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Don't you love Dr. Google?
Bruno is so handsome! And I"ll bet spunky too! How's he doing today?
There are many ups and downs with recuperation, but seromas are one of the least complicated and less serious side-effects. I'll bet that he's going to breeze right through the rest of his downtime, and be back loving life on three paws real soon!
We're glad you found us, and are here to help you on your journey however we can. Keep us posted on how he's doing!

Welcome to you and Bruno! I'm so sorry you find yourself here with us! But Bruno is one handsome fella and especially handsome without that nasty leg!
I'm sure he'll be better than ever once he heals!
Best wishes!
P.S. The monkeybutt monkeydogs seem to need too much attention when a tripawd is around!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Welcome Bruno! Sorry you have to come here but you'll be glad you did, as others have said!
What breed is Bruno? Is he a Pittie?
Hope your recovery goes well!

Maggie lost her battle with kidney disease on 8-24-13
Oh I love the picture of Bruno in his comfy bed! He's a nice looking fellow. Hopefully he'll steer clear of the stairs for awhile, but some of these dogs feel so much better when their painful legs are gone that they can do amazing things. It lets you know just how much it hurt. Good for you for helping Bruno to begin to feel so much better. Keep us posted on how he's getting along.
