I rescued my Dachshund when she was 22 months old... She is 4 years old now and as of April 6th 2012 she become my 3 Legged Mama Girl...
I thought she hurt her paw/leg cause we noticed she was lipping so we checked her paw and leg and nothing was there , week later she was still lipping and then i noticed on her shoulder a VERY large knot- so i took her into the vet, Well thank goodness we did..
within 20 mins they come telling me they have to Amputate her right front leg... I was devastated they thought they wasnt going to be able to save her cause they thought she had bone caner from how the large mass was on her shoulder bone.. to make things shorter The Biopsy came back for Sierra she has Chondrosarcoma Cancer- they told me its very rare for a dog her age to have this and very rare to have it in the leg .. It's usually in the nose.. The vet told me she will be fine, they are 100% sure they got it all..
In 3 months we will get a full xray to be sure that nothing spread.
is anyone else in here that has a tripaw that DX with Chondrosarcoma Cancer??

Welcome to you and Sierra. Sorry you had to join us here but you won't be sorry you did. It's a great group of folks.
We dealt with bone cancer, so don't have any advice about the type you are dealing with but that sounds good if they think they got it all!
Your girl is so adorable! It's an awesome thing to be a tripawd pawrent. She will inspire and amaze you and you'll love her even more!
Welcome to the club,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Welcome Sierra, you are a cutie!
I'm sorry about your diagnosis and have paws crossed that they did get the cancer out. We've had many dogs diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a search in the Forums will show who has dealt with it.
We're glad you found us and look forward to following along on your Tripawd adventures. We don't see too many Doxies here, so you'll be a celebrity!

I want to welcome you too. That really is a suprise given her age and her breed. She sure is a cutie pie! Well, you will have lots of reading to do but we will be rooting for a great recovery for her, 4 years old is awfully young.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
So sorry you find yourself here with us. But welcome Sierra and family. I will have paws crossed that the recovery goes well. And the cancer is completely gone!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Just wanted to offer a late welcome. I hope Sierra's recovery continues smoothly. I also hope the docs are right and they got all the cancer, My tripawd was a little black pug. Maggie was a rear amp, about 12" at the shoulder and about 17.5 lbs. How big is Sierra?
