Love seeing these photos of Mitch recovering from his surgery. He's looking awesome and you are doing a great job easing him back into routine. Glad he is eating well and taking his meds! I bet he'll be back to his old self in no time - and he'll be new and improved - no accidents and humongous spleen! I know waiting for the results is hard - I'm thinking of ya!

Oh yeah, definitely hard... getting anxious to know what we have ahead for us. Mitchell had his first accident last night since the surgery. I know that poor bladder of his is healing right now so I am not going to worry too much about that. I know they got all the stones, I saw the x-rays right after the surgery. His eyes have been clearer since the surgery and even though he is in recovery he somehow seems to feel more comfortable. He is a little agitated this morning, I don't know if it is because he had an accident or because he might be a little uncomfortable. He is just panting and pacing.. kind of like he gets when it thunders out. He is 6 days post op today. The incision looks good, and he has been eating and drinking well which is like a miracle for him. Maybe we will hear something soon.

We are just so relieved. Mitch is napping on HIS couch and it's just so nice to be able to get rid of all that worry. I feel like my head has been spinning all week. I don't think I realized how much until I got that text this morning. Happy weekend! Gonna hang around the house, chill with our pup and  the kitties, make some good food, and make fires in the fireplace... I'm ready 😊

Good news for Mitchell!

I think the second thought bubble for him in that picture is "Mom, don't forget to put ice cream back on the grocery list"

Yes to both, lol. Mitchell, papa, and I were taking turns tasting the ice cream. Mitchell forgot about mama's turn out of sheer excitement so I let him clean the ice cream container, lol. He was just too cute!

Wow time flies. I don't think I realized HOW fast until I came in here and saw when the last posts were. All in all, health wise I think Mitchell is doing ok physically. The rest, his mental health, has kept us busy, frustrated, and remembering why I didn't want to clean houses for a living lol laughing

I have adopted just a small handful of dogs in my life. I guess I have been blessed. I had a little dog (with a HUGE heart and personality) named Charlie, he was a Chihuahua. The shelter I was volunteering at had an animal control officer that found Charlie hit by a car. He got dog gawn lucky I'll tell ya. Other than some road rash, he was just fine. He was 2ish, and his.. umm.. "intact" parts were almost as big as his head, lol. He lasted a week in the shelter. My best friend, now Guardian Angel Connie suggested I take my Chuckie monster home, so I did. After he peed on my ankle he walked into my home and one of the first things he tried to do was hump Minnie the tail-less cat's head way-confused Within 48 hours he was neutered clap  My point here is that I know when small adult dogs are altered later in life they can sometimes lift a leg when they think you're not looking. Charlie had an occasional urge to mark, but nothing major.

Fast forward 20 years and we have Mitchell the wonder dog, who has been perfectly house broken since we adopted him in 2012 has decided he does not want to be house broken anymore. He had no problems until he had ACL surgery on his right rear leg 2 years ago. When his leg was x-rayed the doc found a tiny bladder stone but he had been totally asymptomatic. After the surgery Mitch was a different dog. Not too long after he started having occasional accidents in the house, but his personality was different too. We handled an occasional pee on the floor. Otherwise all was ok. He always favored that leg afterwards, I ended up going to a different animal hospital after also. I get the distinct feeling that something happened to him when he had the surgery. I have never been able to shake it.

After the latest surgery he was in better control of his bladder (at first). He was having less accidents, and then a couple of weeks later it started again in full force. Not one accident: 2,3,4 and mostly all at night, or when we are not home for even an hour. We bought him diapers, he got them off. We crated him for a couple of weeks and I had to stop. He cried and whined all night long. We both lost sleep and I still work a full time job. I felt like a zombie. I read up on the CBD oil and I bought a good brand. Bluebird Hemp Complete. Within just a few days I started noticing a difference in him. His peeing was lessened a little but he has been brighter, more alert, more playful... more like the old Mitchell we used to know. He stopped fighting the diapers mostly so we have stopped crating him.. thank God!!!

I started him on Proin last night. He didn't react great to it so I messaged his vet. Because he has no spleen, he is probably more sensitive to it so we skipped this morning's dose. After like 4 nights in a row of being dry in the morning we decided to not put a diaper on him. Let's see if the Proin helps right away. My husband took up all of Huck's throw rugs, but he left one mat that I keep in front of the sink. It is a soft, spongy mat. Guess where Mitchell peed?????  Not on the "floor", JUST on the mat. It was SOAKED! Needless to say at 5:30 am, many many things started spewing out of my mouth. Most of them began with an F and ended with a K and it wasn't firetruck!!!!

I feel like there is something wrong that I cannot pin down. I will keep using the Proin, I know he only had one dose. The doc told me to try half a dose and see how it works. I will play with it and see if I can get it right without any side effects. He has been on the CBD oil for ummm..about a month-ish?

I have never had a dog that went from house broken to NOT house broken. I have treated stones before, UTIs. His bloodwork is good. He had a urinalysis 2 weeks ago that was PERFECT.

If any of you have any suggestions I would be willing to try just about anything. I am out of my league, out of my realm, and almost out of my mind over him.  The only thing I can say is.. he's lucky he's cute lol. Speaking of cute, if you are still reading this after my rant, let me share a little cuteness as a thank you heart

It IS  a good thing you are so darn cute Mitchell...and quite handsome too!  way-cool  And that favorite pose of yours....melting my heart over here!!

Looks like yiur diaper has to go  back on Mr Mitchell. I personally think you were smart to pee on that one rug so you wouldn't splatter on yourselfway-cool   I don't think your Mom sees ore like being a smart ass though! And she wasn't saying fire truck either/

My experience with male dogs is similar to that of your Charlie (privates as big as head?? WOW!).' Tthey will periodically randomly pee in the house for reasons only they know!    And once they find a certain spot, that's where they'll return.  Mr Frankie periodically pees on my bathroom rug. .    If I've  been in a place where there were other dogs, he's even peed on my shoes...thankfully he waited for me to take them off!  In Frankie's case, I think he  is making a point, for the most part, of "marking his territory".

What happened with Mitchell tonight maynhave been thr caxe also.  Vut because of the other instances, it seemed more.

I don't have any insight for you.  Mitchell's situation does appear to be physical....and maybe a touch of "marking his territory".

Does Huckleberry lay on the rug that was at the sink?   This started AFTER you got Huckleberry, right?   Hmmm....

As hard as it is not to get frustrated, MITCHELL IS DOING MUCH BETTER!!   It may be thst he will have an accident every now and then, but goodness knows he's so much better! 🙂

Lots of hugs and love to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

PS.  Let's seewhat the wise community comes up with for you.

Yeah, Charlie could have made a big dog jealous lolol! This started initially after Mitchell's ACL surgery. I kept thinking a year and a half but it was actually 2 years ago. That was long before the Huckleberry days started. We just took Huck in in September, amazing as that sounds. Before September we knew Huck, but it was out in the yard.

He DOES have several places he rotated to. Two were on rug runners, and the rest were just plain old on the floor. He does not even acknowledge Huckleberry as a resident lol. Sometimes he will interact with Oscar, but not a lot and it is usually Oscar that makes the first move.

Yes, on a brighter note Mitchell IS brighter and doing better and I think the CBD has helped. He is doing a little less sleeping and a little more coming over for attention. Maybe it helps those achy old bones of his smiley We adopted him August of 2012 and they told us he was 2 then. Personally even with the great story they told us I think they fibbed. He has always acted like an older dog than what they say. So he will be officially 8 in August of this year if I go by their records. My thoughts are that he is coming up on about 10.

I read up on the CBD oil and I bought a good brand. Bluebird Hemp Complete.

I'm happy to read the CBD has helped some and I think your dates are off a little.

He has been on the CBD oil for ummm..about a month-ish?

Your email is dated the 4th when we discussed this topic and if it helped maybe it needs more time? Dr. Matt said in most cases results are seen or not seen in a month depending on what it is being used for.  A solid month of use am, and pm will tell you if it is helpful and worth continuing or not.

I cant help with anything else and it does sound like it could be behavioral and the CBD might help? Continue it and hope it does.

The drug others might be able to tell you more on, but I believe it was used in differnt cirumstances?  I don't know for certain either.
