Hello from sunny Northern California. I am happy to find a forum all about Tripawds. I am owned by a 3 1/2 year old sweet boxer boy named Ajay who had his front leg amputated in January. He is amazing, doing everthing he used to do, just tires pretty easy. I volunteer for boxer rescue so I have fosters come and go and Ajay is one that came and stayed LOL Anyway, he gets lots of play time though I worry about him because boxers tend to get pretty roughty when they play. I also have my son's dog Bo living here while my son is deployed. I would love to learn more and get advice and tips from others that have experience.
I wasn't successful trying to add my avatar, (the browse button won't work for me) can you post pics here?
Yeah, another NorCal Tripawd! Too cool! Welcome Ajay & family, we're hoppy to have you here. Did you know we have a NorCal get together once a month in Mill Valley?
Congrats on becoming a Tripawd pawrent. How come Ajay needed an amp?
No worries on the playing ruff....oh boy you should see Tripawd wrestling matches, they can get crazy. Be sure to review our rehbilitation tips videos for some advice there.
Yes, you can absolutely post pictures here. Check out our Tech Support topic about posting pics in the Forums. Did you see this post about adding avatars? If you've followed all these tips, let us know what browser you're using and what operating system, and we'll take it from there.
Thanks again for joining, we look forward to following along with Ajay's adventures. Lotsa love and good wishes going out to you and especially your son. Let him know he now has the Tripawd Nation sending lotsa good thoughts his way and tell him "thanks" from us!

Hello and welcome to Tripawds.
Whats the story behing Ajay- why did he lose his leg?
As Jerry said there is a group of us in Nor Cal that get together usually once a month. Where are you located? I am in Livermore.
You might want to check out Roxy's blog, another front leg amp boxer.
I am looking forward to hearing more about Ajay.

p.s.- Thanks to your son and family for your service.
Welcome welcome....as with the others, need the fully story...waiting with impatience (but that's just me)......
I am also in No. California, Santa Rosa, north of San Francisco....and while I no longer have my boy with me, I will always feel connected to tripawds .... by the heart.
Awaiting pictures and story....
Thanks for the nice welcome, I am trying to figure out the photo thing, not doing so well but I will work on it again later. AJay came into rescue with huge growths on his front paw/foreleg called hammertomas. They were B-9 but extremely aggresive and invasive. I felt like I could sit and watch them grow before my eyes. The biggest issue with hammertomas is the high potential for regrowth. We fought hard to save the leg but after 18 months and several more surgeries to remove re-growth we had to face the difficult but inevitable reality that we lost the battle against regrowth. I didn't want to subject him to anymore procedures and painful recoveries when the outcome was inevitable....it broke my heart after such a long hard fought effort to save the leg but I realize now that it was so much harder on me than on Ajay. He was up and around in less than 24 hours and is finally free of the hammertomas, cones, bandage wraps, special shoes etc. once and for all. He is doing GREAT.
I watched the three vidoes and thought they were very informative and will probably watch them over and over. Thanks for being here and for caring enough to help people with questions and concerns. I will post pics as soon as I figure it out.
BTW I live up in Nevada City, kinda in between Sacramento and Reno...in the foothills.
First, the avatar has a glitch right now and isn't working.
Second, welcome! That's wonderfulof you for fostering and then of course, adopting! Here's the video that Roxy's mom was talking about. She's amazing!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
That video is awesome! She is really having a great time. Trouble never returned to that level of activity after her surgery, of course she isn't as young either
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you for posting that video, it made me smile and giggle just like watching Ajay play though he chases other dogs instead of chasing a ball. Sometimes he tries to take a corner too fast and tumbles. I have noticed that he seems to know how to just roll with it hardly skipping a beat, he rolls once or twice and is back up running without losing any momentum at all. It doesn't seem to bother him a bit. I do worry about how quickly he gets tired out. He wants to go and go and go. Our walks are much shorter and I call them power walks because he does want to move right along except for the thousands of pee stops. So it is go go go stop stop stop....Every tree, bush, stick, shrub, rock, weed, pebble, piece of paper, anything real or imagined has to be sniffed and peed on.
Great video, boy can he run and run and run! You can just feel the love of life that Ajay has for life in the video. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lorilynn,
What a great home Ajay has found! I love that you tried to do what you could for the leg & then just moved on.. I was blown away at how well my dog, Zak, has done as a tripawd. It sounds a little nutty to some but there's times I don't even notice he's missing a leg! I see his reflection in a mirror & be like .. wow - its really obvious his leg is missing but to me he's just my sweet boy.
It is normal for them to get tired more quickly.. it harder work for them w/ 3 legs. I just kinda let Zak set the pace & follow his lead.
Welcome from a fellow Californian.. just WAY down south from you.. 🙂

Hi lorilynn,
My tripawd Chloe sounds very similar in personality to your dog who just wants to go, go, go then stop sniff, stop sniff... It was really hard the first week after surgery because that is ALL she wanted to do, but I had to be mindful that she didn't get exhausted far away from the house. I too just let her pick the pace and then I just let her walk me. Sounds like Ajay is doing just amazing!
-Chloe's mom
Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
Wohooooo I managed to add the avatar (browse button works now) but still can't figure out inserting a photo from photobucket. I will keep trying. Anyway thanks for the nice welcome, I am thrilled to be here and can't wait to get more settled in and get to know you and your puppers.

Glad you got Ajay's avatar uploaded, too cute! Did you review these instructions for embedding photos in forum posts?
Basically... go to PhotoBucket, right click on your photo to copy the image file location and paste that into the Image URL field when using the Insert/Edit Image button.
