I live in Ontario Canada . I have a 4 month old Brittany named Tryke . Tryke was born with his front right leg not fully formed . It looks like a chicken wing with 1 toe nail. We came about getting Tryke because we had sent our Male Brittany Rebel to stud a litter . I don't know what happened but there was only 2 pups born in the litter 1 liver coloured female and little Tryke a orange and white male . The Vet does really know what happen but suspects that maybe he was pressed up againest the females rib cage not allowing the leg to develop . Anyway it is what it is.
My wife and I had discussed purchasing Tryke from the family that owned the female, as we wanted to be sure he was going to a good home. We talked about it for several weeks . We were there often as he grew and watched him . I tried several other people who I had thought would make a good home for the little guy none seemed to work out. Then for Fathers day my wife and daughter presented him to me . They both said this was the right home for him with me.
Tryke has a real attitude will not give up trying and will sit back and think thing through . Happy go luck . Having never had the leg he really does know anything different and never lets it hinder him. This is good because I love to hunt and be in the outdoors. He is presently 4 1/2 months old and have started him in training to be a bird dog. That was what he was born to do and will get every chance to be one. I wish I knew how to attach a picture .

Aww-- he is so cute, and it sounds to me like he was destined to be yours. I'm assuming he'll get to hang out with his dad and have an exciting life as a hunting dog. As you may have seen, there have been numerous tripawd hunting dogs-- one was recently featured on the cover of Gun (?) magazine.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Yep, he was clearly destined to be yours. He's going to love being outdoors with his dad. What a life! Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
What a sweetie! It was meant to be, Tryke just had to be part of your pack.
Oh gosh, we have had many Tripawd hunting dogs join us, you are both in great company. The name of the dog Scout is referring to is Bart, and he was just on the cover of Gun Dog Magazine. I hope Tryke gets to be the next one!
As he gets older, he shouldn't have a weight problem since you'll be active together. This is terrific. A lean tripawd is a healthy one
We can't wait to see some pics of your little guy. Thanks for joining us.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Welcome, Tryke! It sounds like he will have a really wonderful life with a family who truly wants him and appreciates him. The attitude helps!

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Welcome to Tripawds.
It sounds like your house is the place Tryke was meant to live in! There is another story here about a tripawd bird dog named Jeddediah, here is a link to the posts. Jed was hunting before he broke his leg in a weird accident. After he healed up from surgery he was back at it.
Looking forward to pictures of Tryke.
