We adopted a blue Great Dane named Harley 2/13/2011 at 2 years old. He was malnourished and scared, only 90lbs. Three days later, On 2/16, he escaped our house while we were at work... was hit by a car but 7 days later with a lot of help from the community, I found him 9 miles away. He came to me minutes after I spotted him near a bush, he wouldn't go to anyone as the callers who seen my posters told me. I sat on the ground, cried, called him and he came.... Two liters on fluid and 3 days of sleep later, he was fine and has never left my side since ( no leash needed!). That April he really wasn't gaining much weight and became very sick... A week in ICU, two blood transfusions later, he was diagnosed with Addsion's disease. Now almost 2 years later, he is 140lbs and awesome with the help of a Percorten shot every 25 days and healthy except for the bone cancer that came Sept 2012 in his front left wrist. Amputated on 12/04/12 and gets around great! Now on his 4th round of 5 chemo treatments he is doing great! He is amazing and still has 6 lives left in him and I will do everything in my power to make that happen because I cannot imagine life without him.
Welcome, Harley! You're a stunning pup with quite an amazing, traumatic story. I'm glad you went back to your mom and haven't left her side. Now it's her turn to be by yours, a cancer warrior cheerleader! Keep up the fight, Harley! I'm pleased to have met you. Keep us posted on your progress!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Oh Harley, what a life you've had! Wow. I'm hoppy that you got another chance to be with the people who love you more than anything. I'm sorry you got cancer but based on how tough you've been through the years, something tells me that you're going to stick it to this disease!
Thanks for sharing your story with us. We'd love to include it in our Tripawd Awareness Day celebration so be sure to post a pic of your handsome mug.

Unfortunately a week after his final chemo, his chest X-ray is showing small spread to his lungs. Now we have started him in the cyclophosphamide. It's been 6 days on it and last night around 3am, he woke up and threw up a few times. I heard its very rare side effect for dogs, but I am not sure. He is an Addisonian dog, so we cannot mess with vomiting! I know I should call the vet, but I really don't want to drag him there when he is feeling like crap just to spend more money on meds after already spending every dime I have. Hoping he drinks and eats later today or I guess we are off to the vet. Poor baby if anyone has any side effect like this from the pill form of
cyclophosphamide please let me know. Thanks!
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that Harley's got side effects. I can't even imagine what the vomiting could be from but unfortunately this is definitely something to call your vet about. I'll bet if you just call them on the phone they can help you out so you don't have to take him into the office unless it's really necessary. Be honest with them, tell them you don't have money for more tests and you need something that you can afford that will help him feel better. Most vets will understand and work with you it.
Good luck, please keep us posted.

Poor Harley has been through so much in his life so far. Im so glad that you are in Harley's life, because of you he feels safe and he feels what real love is. With you by his side, Harley will continue to fight. Please keep us updated and let us know what the vet said. Sending you and Harley a big hug.
“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace.” ― Milan Kundera
Yikes! How's Harley today? Any more vomiting? Every dog handles meds differently, so maybe the cycloph. doesn't sit well. Or it's something else? Please let us know what's going on.

Yay Harley.....Sorry, for whatever reason I didn't get to your site til just now. I've been seeing that WONDERFUL picture of him flying with the breeze with the image I the mirror. I LOVE that photo and Love Harley for being the great champion he is. And what special soul you are for giving him the best possible life a fine boy like Harley deserves! I think that photo says it all, he's not looking in his rear view mirror to see where he's been----he's not looking g forward to see where he's going------he's just treasuring the bliss of living in the moment and enjoying the ride!!What a great lesson for us all.
And yes, I love the visual you posted on one of your replies of a three legged six foot dog hugging you!!How lucky can you get!!
