Hi all:
As some of you know, I posted that Tika's birthday was July 21st. I was very emotional about it considering she now has lung mets.
However, we had a fabulous day yesterday. We (2 dawgs and I, husband not allowed in the kitchen) made birthday doggie cookies. And dad cooked steaks for us all.
Tika was of course the center of attention and she just ate it up.
The group present for the females in the house, (except kitty Gracie, she opted for 'watching' the house while we are gone) was an RV trailer, we've been talking about it for awhile and we found a phenomenal deal. We had done a test run earlier in the year (posted here of course) with a rental and we just had so much fun.
We are fortunate to be between two lakes and Eastern Kansas is not what you expect from Kansas, it's hilly, has forests and really quite lovely.
I have had some tears this week, I keep having these wars with myself. STOP thinking about the future, think about NOW.
I wound up bawling yesterday morning saying Happy Birthday to Tika, she just got annoyed at momma's emotions. Good girl. Teach momma a lesson.
Tika got a lot of birthday wishes from my coworkers, and since I can bring her to work once in awhile they have seen her through her recovery. They all say, SHE is my hero. I never thought I say that about a dog, as much as I love animals.
That, it made me cry also. But she is my hero, also.
All of these dogs and their owners are heros.
Okay, getting emotional again. Better stop. Big day at the lake tomorrow!
Cheers all,
Kim

Hmmmm, yep - the tears come when they come and I often have to pull myself out of the future sadness into the here and now happiness. But good for Tika for reminding you that the time is "now"...what a wonderful celebration you had! She is so lucky and blessed to have you...and you her. I hear you about heroes...Zeus is mine - us tripawd lovers know exactly how each other feel.
Keep your chin up and don't worry about tomorrow (as best as you can)...it will come eventually, but not today.
Lots of love

Wishing Tika a very Happy & Belated Birthday!
From one Kim to another, please don't mourn the living!
Live in the here and now, we never know what tomorrow may bring.
My angel Buster lived a very happy and quality filled life with lung mets. Make the most of your time.
I would do anything to have my boy back for a day, lung mets and all!
Enjoy,
Kim, Angel Buster & my new pup Nanuq

Oh Kim that is wonderful news about the trailer. Yipee! Hit the road!! See the sights! Enjoy life! Yeah!
I know it's so hard to balance all of the emotions that happen while we try to live in the moment yet still accept the inevitable. But you're definitely doing a good job of not letting the tears take over. Tika is teaching you well, and you are a good student.
Enjoy your day at the lake, and if you have time, post some pics!
