I want to thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to respond to my initial posting introducing ourselves to the forum.  It really does take the loneliness out of it all to know that there are others that have experienced all that we are and have also had to make some of the same decisions that I know that I am going to have to.  You are all so very kind.

This AM I had an apt that took a couple of hours and upon my return home Griffyn met me to say hello just as he always does.  We have a tile floor in the kitchen and I noticed that he was having difficulty standing.  His effected leg kept sliding backwards and behind his other paw.  He would pull it back but with no avail it would slide back.  I think that it was annoying him just as much as it was myself and he finally sat down.  He seems to be walking on it ok but I notice the leg/muscle seems to be weak and shaky.  He has fallen down a couple times in the short time that I have been home.  All he wants to do is be is by my side and as I write this I am sitting on the floor next to him so as to keep in one place.

I am thinking that either the cancer is spreading to his spine or he has compression on a nerve causing the symptoms that I am seeing.  I know that steroids come with there own nastiness but has anybody out there used them in a case like this?  Just food for thought.  I have him (and my other dogs) on Cosequin of which I decided to leave him on the loading dose and he is also on his pain killer twice a day.  He is still not showing me any outward signs of pain.

I am thinking I have been in a little bit of denial because I had not physically seen anything different in him other than a deformed hip.  The mind games that I know I was playing with myself - but now that I am seeing what I am seeing brings me back to only a couple of weeks ago when we were first diagnosed.

Don't feel bad, we dogs aren't about to show pain or weakness to our pack members. In the wild we would get thrown out – or worse – if we did. That's why these nasty conditions are so hard to identify and diagnose, until they become advanced.

Bless you for all you're doing for Griffyn.

Becka,

Hang in there.. . Griffyn is probably scared from falling. Just being there for him is reassuring. As long as he is breathing OK, and not in obvious pain. Your a wonderful mom, just love him and don't be so hard on yourself. Illness is beyond our control. I'm so sorry your best friend is going through this. At least you are there to comfort him and bring him peace.

I'm so sorry hearing this...my heart is just breaking for you. Love him and then love him even more...All he wants to do is be with you and make you happy. These creatures that we are given as gifts are truly amazing...

You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Becka,

Soooo sorry to hear you and Griffyn are having to go through this difficult time.  I hope that he has better days ahead with you and your family.  I agree with Heather and Zeus.... love him up silly.  Every day is a precious gift.  You are both in our prayers.  Please give him gentle warm and healing hugs from us as well.

Hi Becka & Griffyn,

As you know, we are thinking of Griffyn every single day and truly hope that he still has some good, quality time left.  I just wanted to post on here, too, so you know that I am following the story on this wonderful website, as well.  As Zeus & Heather said: "Love him and then love him even more...".
