Emily just had her right rear leg amputated on Tuesday.  She was doing so great but was also very nervous so they let her come home on Wednesday.  The doctors and vet students at The Ohio State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital have been so great and so supportive.  She has amazed us with how well she is doing.  We are so glad that we had the amputation done.  Yes, it is hard still.  She seems so restlesss sometimes ilke she can't get comfortable.  We  love her so much it is hard to hear her yelp in pain if she moves wrong.  I am so grateful for finding this site and being able to read about how other dogs have come through the surgery and the adjustment.  Even when your dog is doing as well as Emily is, it was still major surgery.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Oh, by the way, I worried before the amputation that it would be hard to look at her afterwards. Guess what?  She is still just a beautiful!

Yeay for Emily! And you too. It always does everyone so much good to hear about pawsitive expereinces like this. Thank you for sharing here.

As the days go by, she will adapt better and get more comfortable. Hang in there.

And yes, Tripawds are indeed just as beautiful, if not more so, we think. Watching them sail through life despite the hardship they faced, is the most heartwarming and inspiring thing we have witnessed. If more humans watched these dogs and took notes on how to live life like they do, the world would be a much better place!

Good luck with the recovery. Please keep us posted, we're with you all the way!

...and as the days go by she will become more beautiful to you as you watch her face life with such enthusiasm, despite her obstacles as only a dog (or child) can do. she will become your favorite teacher. We are so glad to hear that she is doing well. Yes the first couple weeks are ruff...emotionally and physically for all, but well worth the time that this will give you with her.

We send wishes for a speedy recovery and many wonderful moments with her. Keep us posted on how she continues to do.

Much love,

Heather and Zeus

This is so true.  They teach you so much about acceptance, love, freedom, and so many other things. Trouble becomes more beautiful to me each day.

I'm so glad Emily is recovering well.  My baby Angel lost her paw after getting hit by a car and will have the rest of the leg removed in a week or more.  She has made me thankful for my health and I don't complain now if I have a headache or whatever.  These babies are so brave and happy to see us even when they are in pain.  I hope Emily's recovery is quick and she can start hopping around!

I'm sorry to hear about Angel.  I hope that she recovers nicely.  Thanks for the encouragement.
