Well, it has definitely been an up hill battle for our little girl, but what a trooper she is!!! She is almost 7 months post amputation and kicking cancer's ass, but not without a ton of challenges. 2 months ago, she had a double ear infection, nothing worse then a tripawd that is dizzy! We finally got that cleared up and a week later, she caught a claw on her good front leg and broke it down to the quick, it was so painful for her to walk on it for a couple of days. Then last month, she began acting strange. I convinced myself the cancer was back and we were going to loose our sweet little girl. Luckily, we have an incredible team of vets that care so much for her. She was very quickly diagnosed with diabetes and will be receiving 2 insulin shots a day. Great girl that she is, she takes them like a champ! Unfortunately, we have found that diabetes in dog can cause cataracts, but LUCKILY, our fantastic vet had just been to a talk on a new drug they are trying for the treatment of cataracts in dogs and one of the study groups is here in Tampa! Belle went for her evaluation on Monday, and was accepted into the program. She is the first tripawd in the program and quite a celebrity at the eye clinic, little miss personality! Starting tomorrow, Belle will get 2 insulin shots a day and drops in her eyes 3 times a day. Thank goodness I work from home and can do this!!! She is such a great girl, always wagging her tail no matter what. You can't keep a good girl down, but I am not sure how much more her (or I) can take. I could not have gotten through the amputation without you guys, now I may need some support for our next challenge!

Good grief Belle and Sari.....couldn't just be a simple leg amputation, huh?
What strong girls youBOTH are! Yes, our dog family seems to handle thing so much better than we do sometimes. Of course, they don't worry about the "what its" and don't make sczrey scenarios up in their head (can certainly relate to tat)_____they just live in the moment and don't worry!! She doesn't know she's in a study group (and congratulations o that)__she must knows she's getting tons of attention from everyone and that make Belle a happy girl!!!
You know we are all in tis boat together and will do the rowing for you of you need a little rest!!Sit back, relax, and enjoy the serenity and calm we are surrounding our with.
You hand tough---because you are!! You are doing great....really!!
Lots of support to you and Belle, Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
What a bummer, but Belle is lucky to have you!

Wow, your plate IS full! We had a Chesapeake Bay retriever that developed diabetes. We gave her shots twice a day for 2 1/2 years. This was over 10 years ago and she did go blind. I wish there would have been something back then like the drops your pup is going to get. Good for Belle.
Things have probably changed in canine diabetes over the years but one thing we were told to have on hand was a big syringe (given to us by the vet) rubberbanded to a bottle of Karo syrup in case she were to have a diabetic seizure. Sure enough, she had a seizure and the Karo worked. However, I was so panicked to get to our vet, I put her in my car that was parked in the garage and backed out with the garage door only half way up! That made my bad day worse.
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
Wow, that's a lot, but she sure is a trooper! You got that right! So glad she was enrolled in the study. We all hope it works miracles for her. Keep up the fight, deary!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Oh poor Belle. That's a lot to be thrown at her (and you too)! Glad you caught the diabetes early so you could save her vision. I have had both a diabetic cat and dog. By the time my dog was diagnosed she had lost most of her vision.
Sending you and Belle our best...
