Dale Pup is home from Surgery. I'm not going to lie...today was quite stressful. He went into surgery at 7:30AM East Coast Time and we got the call from our vet at 10AM that he was out of surgery and everything went well. We are a bit stressed as our vet does not have 24 hour care...so we brought him home tonight. His first steps were out of our care and into the house. This took some coaxing...but he did such a great job. He immediately laid in his favorite spot. He is not that responsive at the moment...but we are so impressed with how he made it into the house. While I was nervous about not having him in 24 hour care for the first day or two...we are so happy he is here with us. Thanks to everyone on this site for making us feel that this was the right decision. We know this will be a stressful couple of weeks...and so much appreciate everyone's support!
Welcome home Dale! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Welcome Home, Dale! Paws crossed for a speedy recovery! Make sure you all get some rest, the first 2 weeks are the toughest.

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
Hooray for Dale Pup being home. I'm sure that is the only place he wants to be!
Be sure to come here with any questions or if you just need some support. We've all been there and know how exhausting and rough those first couple of days and weeks can be.
All the best and healing Abby kisses to Dale Pup,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Awwww! Home Sweet Home Dale!
I'm with you, I'd never leave my baby overnight by themselves! It's tough going but I'd rather sit up all night to a crying furbaby than have them alone!
Wishing you a very, very speedy recovery!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Yay Dale!
he's definitely better off being home with you than left overnight without care. I'm sure today won't be easy but just stay in contact with your vet and you'll all be fine. Keep us posted OK?
We're cheering you on!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! Dale really does amaze me...he's hopping around pretty good and learning to maneuver. When he gets up...it takes him a bit to figure out how to sit and lay back down. He's on a lot of meds...but much more responsive and alert than he was last night when we first got him home. Below is a picture of our new tripawd. We were prepared for a lot of "husky talking" (howling and whimpering) but thus far he has been fairly quiet. I'm sure this has a lot to do with the meds and "patch"! We also have a scrip for gabapentin for the "phantom" pain. We have not given him one yet...as I'm a bit nervous about altering his current mood...which seems very good all things considered. Any suggestions are appreciated! The support here has really helped us through this process. Thanks Again!
Lookin' good Dale! Consider watching our video about common post-amputation complications for Dr. Pam's input about Gabapentin and phantom pain . We may lean toward your thinking of if he's doing well don't change anything, but she mentions how gabapentin works best if started before symptoms occur.
Thanks for the update, please give Dale a good ear rub and keep us posted.
