Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Wanted to say that I am officially 16 years old now! Had my birthday on Sunday, Father's Day. I am doing pretty good for an old guy. I walk around the yard and get around the house ok. Mom and Dad dote over me and take good care of me. I am still taking oral chemo, but I hope I can be done with that soon. Dr. Rassnick is keeping on top of my care at Colonial Vet in Ithaca, NY, and I am really glad for that. I spent yesterday helping Mom and Dad taking parking money at a tractor show and greeting people that came in. It was fun and I enjoyed it lots! Have my next appointment with Dr. Rassnick next week and I am hoping for a good report as I have to have chest xrays and urine tests. I will have updates after that...Buck

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Wow-- happy birthday Buck! You are one amazing guy and we wish you a happy, happy birthday and a clean bill of health when you go in for your check up. You are an inspiration to all and I hope that my MB golden puppy Tom can celebrate his sweet 16th; not many goldens make it to such a grand old age 🙂 Treats for all!
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Thought I would add a little update. I am still doing good so far. It has been over a year since I had my leg taken, November 7, to be exact. I keep getting good results with my blood tests and chest xrays and urine tests so keep your paws crossed. I get around the yard and follow the rest of the dogs all over the place. I am still on oral chemo. Will be a year soon for that. Dr. Rassnick wants me to be on it for a year to be on the safe side so he knows best. He said he has heard good things about the Palladia I am taking. He also said the course of meds I am taking is kind of experimental at this point, so I guess I am a guinea pig. I don't care as long as it keeps the cancer away. For those of you who ask, I take 65 mg of the Palladia every other day, Piroxicam 8mg and Chlorambucil 4 mg together every other day. Everyday I take Sucralfate 1 gram tablets, three times a day (crushed and in water), along with one Prilosec and one Pepcid a day to coat my stomach against the chemo. I also get one fish oil a day and glucosamine, one a day. I have always taken the fish oil and the other and the doc said it was ok to take it with my meds. Then I get a treat! I guess it is expensive meds from what Mom and Dad say, the Palladia is about 550 a month for 14 pills. Then the Prilosec and Pepcid and Sucralfate which is about 65 dollars. The other two come from a place in Arizona and are about 80 dollars a month. So I really appreciate the sacrifice my folks are going thru for me. I know there are lots of other parents doing the same for their "kids". That's the latest from me, Buck. Hope all the other Tripawds are doing good, too.
Wow, the minute I saw the picture I remembered Buck and his story!! 16 and it sounds like you are doing pretty darn good. Buck your family knows that old gold is priceless and you are worth every penny. Thank you for the happy update and have a great Thanksgiving next week!

I just referred a new member, Cracker, to your story. She is 17 years old and her Momma is uncertain about the amputation idea. Feel free to drop her a line, I'm sure she would love to hear from you.
