Hello everyone, so glad I found this forum.  Life has changed drastically in the last week.  My heart has never ached so badly.  My doggie, Brina the Rottweiler, the love of my life was diagnosed with bone cancer less than a week ago.  She has had her front leg amputated and we will be starting chemo in 8 days.  The vet has given her about a year to live.

Here is her story:

Thanks for joining the discussion! You'll find plenty of support here from others who know exactly how you feel. Try not to focus on on how much time you have left with Brina, or the time you do have will be a miserble waiting game. Instead, follow Brina's lead and live in the ever present animal now. Focus on quality, not quantity.

Peace.

This is not to foster false hope, but the vet can only give you statistics, they are no better than you or I at predicting the future.  Live each day to it's fullest and enjoy that moment you have with Brina. The end comes when it comes, not when someone says it will.

Best of luck as Brina begins her recovery.  The recovery from the surgery is an adjustment period for you and the dog, but it is something we all face and there are many stories here to help you through.

Hello Its such a shock to find out your dogs got cancer,Ive read Brinas story and hope that you keep in touch with everyone on this web site. We only recently found this web site and find it a great help. Our dog has also had a amputation due to cancer and has received 5 chemo treatments to date. The shock is awful but gradually as the treatment commences you will feel a lot better and find that Brina will not be in pain and this will be a great comfort to you.The first couple of weeks is the worst and once off the painkillers you will find a big improvement with Brina.Think positively and Brina will improve day by day .keep in touch give Brina a big hug best wishes Fast dogs mom

Hello and welcome *wave*

We understand the shock and sadness that you currently feel.

Brina is now on her way to recovery and soon you'll join her!  (It tends to take longer for the humans to recover than the dogs!).

Regarding what your vet said - I don't do statistics and I don't look too far ahead with Darcy - even now at 17 months post amp.  We just enjoy today and we let tomorrow take care of itself.

Darcy sends Brina a hairy hug.
