I've been terribly slack and not posted nearly as much as I had promised myself I would at the start of the year.
A few of you will have seen a couple of my earlier posts about Peda (10+ year old shar pei / akita with OSA living in sunny Perth). Monday I had the unfortunate (but not totally unexpected) news that she now has lung mets.
So many of us hope long and hard that our pups won't follow the typical course of this awful disease. Despite the devastating news, I am glad that at the moment she seems to be fairly healthy and happy. I've had the week off work and its been a lovely time together - we've gone and visited friends and had long car trips and just hung out lots with no pressure for me to have to be somewhere.
We have started metronomics - and hopefully that'll slow the buggers down (as long as she can tolerate it). She has a cough and we've now got something on board to settle that when she starts coughing.
I'll try to post some information on the protocol in next few days.
Sad that it is bad news that has brought me back to the forums to post...
Peda - So sorry about your diagnosis. I know you will meet it head on and give it a heck of a fight! Sending pawsitive thoughts your way.
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Metronomics has been beneficial for several of the tripawds here including the pack leader, Jerry. I'm with maximutt, having a plan is a step in the right direction.
Sending good thoughts for the both of you.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
Hey Peda & family, you don't need to apologize for not being here, that means you have been busy loving life! I'm glad to hear that otherwise things are good. Those dumb lung mets are gonna run from you, I just know it! It's hard news to hear, but metronomics is a great idea, and I hope with all my heart that it gives you a lot of happy healthy times ahead. If there is anything we can do at all you just let us know OK? We look forward to seeing those pics!

It was bad news that brought you back here but it's the best place to be when you need support and encouragement . As you already know, many have had good success with metronomics and Peda will fit in just fine with that group!
This roller coaster ride is unique to this site but you've been on it before so you know the good times can continue for a long time.
Sending you support and strength and peace,
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Bummer. This is a day I fear, too. We tell ourselves and our pups, it's not gonna happen to us....but....
Your attitude is great! She's happy and feeling great! Plus, those metronomics on board will hopefully help. We were instructed to give MSM to help keep the bladder healthy with that drug. It's often found in joint supplements. Protecting Peda's lady-bladder is super important! Keep us posted.
(((HUGS))) b/c cancer sucks.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
