Bonita have been here for 2 weeks now.For those who dont know Bonita is a stray dog from portugal. She was born in the streets and lived like that all her life,a year ago she got hit by a car,a friendly person who knew about a vet that helped stray dogs took her to this vet and Bonita got one of her rear legs amputaded.

We picked her up in the airport 2 weeks ago, expected to meet a shy nervous dog,but met a happy girl who licked our hands,it was love at first sight.

She is very smart, been livin on the streets for 2 and a half years, but it just took 3 days to get her housetrained. She has also been filmed by the local newspaper, they have a pet series on their website,i will show you when it comes on monday. They talked with the lady that tries to help these dogs,I think it will be very nice. You wont understand norweigan, but you can at least see Bonita live hehe. She loves people and she leaned on to the reporters legs, and she got to lift her up in her arms.We just love our friendly cuddly girl =)

She has gotten a webmaster harness ,doesnt mind wearing it,but its a little to big ,she has to put on some weight ,then it will fit perfectly. She has gained 1 kilo in these 2 weeks, but has to put on some more, she is very skinny.

And missing a leg doesnt bother her,she runs faster than my other dogs with 4 legs, and she jumps in the sofa,in the car ,no problems at all =)She has also expierenced snow for the first time in her life, and she loved it.She loves to live inside, and loves all the attention she can get,are a bit jealous on the other dogs when we cuddle with them.

Everyone that meets Bonita just loves her,she is a so nice dog,and LOVES to be petted. My vet did love her too,and said it was a shame that here in norway almost everyone choses to put their dog to sleep than to amputate.I get a lot of comments about her on her walks, some bad but mostly positive.People over here are not used to see a three legged dog.

I cant find out how to insert pictures in the post,i read that there is a button for it,but that doesnt show up here.So can someone explain? i have some photos and videos of her on our website http://dagandni.....weebly.com

HI Nina,

Welcome to the Tripawds family!! I just checked out your website... You have a BEAUTIFUL animal family!!!

I can't wait to see some videos and pictures of Bonita. She is a very lucky dog to have been adopted by you and Dag. I can tell that you both really love your animals!! How do the rest of your animals feel about their new family member?

I also have 1 German shepherd named Wolfie, 1 cat crazy Himalayan cat named Ping-Pong, 2 Fisher lovebirds, 1 bluejay named Joey (we rescued him as a baby), a giant albino pacman frog called Daisy, and alot of saltwater fish. We have no children but I think that if we had more money and a bigger house, we would have even more animals!!! They give us so much joy in our lives!!

Angel Jake's Mom

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!

The other dogs likes Bonita,Bella my papillon loves to play with her.Bonita thinks the macaw is a bit scary, but she will learn over time that he is just a sweet birdie.I have two small superb parrots, and Bonita likes to chase them,so i have to learn her to leave them alone. And my african grey parrots can talk with our voices,so she gets a bit confused sometimes lol.
And yes we LOVE animals, couldnt have lived without them.Almost all our animals, are animals that nobody else wanted. Both me and Dag likes to give animals like that a second chance and when they get loved they give so much back,i think adopted animals are the best.
We had a brown cocker spaniel some years ago,he was extremely agressive, did bite us until we blead every day,we took him to a behavior specialist and kept on training him for many month, but he never improved,so in the end i was a bit afraid to be with him since he was so unpredictable,so we put him to sleep..i felt i gave up on him ,i had the worst time. But the vet also meant that this was the best, before he hurt a child or other people.
And there was Zenta,a german sheperd girl who had lived with a man who used drugs,he never fead her so she was extremely thin, and had developed several illnesses,we had her for 6 month before we had to put her to sleep. So it isnt always easy to help animals, not every case has a happy ending. But luckily most of them do.
I am so glad to have gotten a dog like Bonita, she gives us so much. And we love her so much ,i hope more people here in norway will give dogs like her a chance when they see her on the pet series.I also got them to say that a dog can live a good life even if its missing a leg,so i hope Bonita can help other dogs like her.Thats why i agreed to let her be on the series so soon after she came to us,i thougt it maybe would be to stressfull for her,but she did just fine =)

Thanks for the update! Make sure you have tightened all five of the adjustment points for the harness. The chest and belly straps can be tightened, and the three straps that come together in front can all be adjusted.

Thanks for the update on Bonita.  It sounds like she is fitting in well and gaining the 1kg in a week is a tribute to your family making her feel at home so quickly.  I am sure that she does realize how lucky she is to have such a great home.

I went to your web site after reading this first posting.  Boy am I glad that you described you extended family in the later posting – a very diverse and great looking family.

We are just going to have to work a little harder to send you our positive thoughts so that they can reach you.  Wishing you the very best and will be looking forward to hearing regular updates about Bonita.

Bob & Cherry

PS: I was not kidding before when I told you that I was familiar with a Bonita Pool in Yellowstone National Park.  I found a photo of the pool (not too good) which view with this LINK.

I was thinking about you guys and wondering how she was doing.  I'm so glad to hear she has easily adjusted to her new life.  Bonita it sounds like you are representing Tripawds very well in Norway! Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
