On the evening of Wednesday, July 27, 2011, life as we knew it was altered forever...Our spunky 1-1/2yr. old Terrier decided to follow my daughter out the front door and as she did, she noticed a group of people across the street. This was the perfect opportunity to bark, jump, and have fun, so off she goes darting across the street and then it happened. Bella was hit by a passing car. Bella was bleeding, scared, limping, crying, and I'm sure in shock, we all were. After an emergency room visit, x-rays, and a follow-up with her doctor it was determined that too much nerve damage had occured and the only thing that could be done was amputation. The procedure was done Thursday evening and Bella was home by Friday night.
After the initial shock of hearing that my doggie needed to have her leg amputated wore off, the first thing I did was hit the internet for reasearch...this is how I found this site. I am glad to read about all the successful stories and I now know that although life will be different, Bella will live a happy healthy life in her condition.
Bella's latest update is she is home, recovering, taking her meds. and already hopping around. Her recovery seems to be going well, I am amazed and joyful at the same time. She's not her spunky self yet, but I'm sure she'll be back to normal in no time...
Sorry to hear about Bella, we're happy to hear she's doing well. Best wishes for a complete speedy recovery!

So very sorry to hear about Bella. What an unfortunate accident. This is the perfect place to learn about life on three legs. Lots of wonderful folks who are willing to answer lots of questions.
Recovery is the worst. Get rest while Bella rests. You don't want to be a worn out caretaker. Wishing Bella a speedy recovery.

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
OH MY! That's horrible! I so worry about something like that happening with my little guy, too! Luckily, we don't have a busy street but still...
I'm sure Bella will be great! Dogs handle so much and adapt! I, myself would be a basket case!
We'd love to see a picture!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh Geez - that is heartbreaking - I am so sorry....I do have to say though you will be amazed how well Bella will recover - it takes a few weeks and they adjust to a missing limp and then they are back to doing pretty much everything they did before....Her personality will change a bit with the pain meds but once those are gone - she should get back to her spunky self.
