We noticed a limp in Gaby's back left leg the other day. Due to Osteosarcoma, she had her right front leg amputated on Oct. 25, 2011 so we are about 3 months out from when all this craziness started. We were taking her into the vet today anyway to have a CBC done as the last round of Carbo knocked her out and her bone marrow was not recovering . We decided to have them look at the leg first to see if they could determine the source of the pain. The oncologist didn't feel any bumps so she recommended an orthopedic. We were actually able to see her right away and she found the pain. She wanted to have x-rays done, so now we are just playing the waiting game. I have a feeling I know what is going to be found and this sucks.
I think reading all of the recent posts have helped us make our decision. I would rather send her on her next journey a day early than a day late. I don't want to take a chance of her fracturing her leg and suffering if we are not home. I'll let you know what I hear from the vet.

Oh dear - sending good thoughts your way that it is something minor and she just needs some rest. We had a scare with Abby last summer where she started limping - I feared the worst, but it turned out to just be a sprained toe. I hope you have a similar minor issue!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. So, we just got the results back from X-ray and there were no visible lesions . The Dr. seems to think its a muscular injury, possibly a pulled quadricep. She is prescribing Methocarbamol which is a muscle relaxer. Does anyone have any experience with this drug?
Now we are just waiting for the results from the full blood panel. Hopefully her bone marrow has started to repair itself and her white blood count has started going back up. I'll let you know when I hear about round 2 at the Vet.
Thanks for all of the support,
Joanie, Doug, and "Fighter" Gaby
Whew! That's great to hear. It's good to be prepared for the worst but always so wonderful when we hear great news like that.
I don't have experience with the muscle relaxer but I hope it works. Good luck with the blood test results.

Yay for pulled muscles! I think. Hope all is well with the CBC and you can put these worries behind you!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Gaby,
Stop scaring your momma (and us!!!).... You know us people don't handle the ups and down as easily as you pups do. We worry -- A LOT!!! We're super happy it was just a pulled muscle, but I think you might have taken a couple of years off your momma with that little trick. Get better now, you hear!
Gaby's people,
It's easy to expect the worst, especially after everything you guys have been through with your girl. Hang in there, though... We're pulling for you and for Gaby!

That's great news!! Hooray! I know this sounds silly but I bet that takes a load of your mind. We're all predisposed to thinking the worst so it's relieving when you get muscle sprain diagnosis. Sending positive healing thoughts for a speedy recovery from this minor hurdle.

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Hooray for the good update! (Sorry - never heard of that drug, so no info there...)
Get better quickly Gaby - and have good blood work. And stop scaring everypawdy!

pulled muscles ROCK!! our jane took that med when she would have trouble with neck/spine pain. it really helped subdue her, and along with tramadol got her over the hump when the spasms would hit. hope the blood panel shows 'all good' as well. geesh gaby, stop scaring everybody!!

Yea for Gaby!!
We celebrate lots of injuries and illnesses around here- just because it is not the 'C'!
I think one of the doberman's used that muscle relaxer- I think it was Levi, but I don't remember what user name they posted under, maybe someone else does.
Hope she is back to normal hopping soon!
