Hey all, I have a chocolate lab tripawd Apollo I rescued. Lab Rescue got him out of the pound the day he was to be eunthanized. He is now my little rambunctious angel... love love love him! He makes me laugh everyday. I have used this site when I first adopted him, to find out hints and ideas to make it "tripawd safe" around here, and have found it very helpful. I also found a wonderf harness for him, along with a life vest- although he doesn't need that anymore..swims with no problem, even though it's just in and out to retrieve the tennis ball.!!
I was looking around on here, to see if there are any events in my area, and can't seem to find where that info may be... can someone point me in the right direction?
Thank you for all the great information on this site. It's very helpful and encouraging!

Welcome Nicki and Apollo. What a great face Apollo has!
Looking forward to hearing more of his adventures,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Thank you, I think it's the first time I've posted, AND I may have had to create a new account, since I couldn't remember the old one! 🙂
I will look at "Tripawds Parties" to see if there is anything in my area. I am Jacksonville, Florida (Orange Park) area.
I have had Apollo for about 2 years now, he just turned 3 last week. I'm not sure how he lost his leg, I tried to find out, but maybe it's best that I don't know, (since he is a rescue-I'm afraid what I may hear) . He runs quicker than a 4 legged dog, and leaps like a gazelle..it's absolutely amazing...! He is very resourceful, I watch him manuever the Kong, and he's no dummy, knocks it around with his nose to get his treats out...and not to mention, his counter surfing ways.... he actually can get his head in the sink to pull out a coffee mug or spoon. Needless to say, I no longer keep anything on the counters, not after I have found an empty bread bag and empty cookie container on the floor..
He is my joy... my first dog as an adult, and when I saw his face on the rescue site, I just fell in love. I read that he was a tripawd, and I just loved him more... others asked if I was ready to handle a 3 legged dog, and I just looked at them and said "really?"....right now it's not a problem, but as he ages, there may be challenges, and I will handle them as they come. I am sure this website has lots of resources to help us along our way. In the meantime, Apollo and I, are just loving life!!
Thanks again!
Welcome from a fellow tripawd adopter! I got Bosco just six weeks ago. He had been hit by a car when he was picked up as a stray in August, and the Humane Society took him in and fixed him up. It's good to hear your story, further on with your tripawd rescue and doing great.
(By the way, I'm not in Jacksonville now, alas much too far away for a meet-up, but I was actually born there!)
Welcome to Tripawds Nicki and Apollo!
First - bless you for adopting! I'm sure as you know there are so many wonderful things about 3-legged dogs!
I never even googled three legged dogs until I had mine for over 10 years so I understand what you are saying about "just loving life"!
Happy thoughts to you guys!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
