Today marks 2 weeks 2 days post Amp. Her incision has completely healed and looks as normal as one could expect.
She had her first chemo (carboplatin) on Tuesday and did well. She was only at the Oncologist's for a little over an hour. She Was a little sleepy on Wednesday but, is really perked up today. No other side effects.
I'm thinking we might do a chest x-ray between the 2nd and 3rd chemo. Not sure I really want to know. Her lungs were clear at diagnosis.
I have started to wean her off the tramadol and have stopped the Deramaxx. I am giving her K9 Immunity
+.
The Oncologist did not recommend any special diet. She said that OS is not effected by diet. Just stay away from raw meats.
We bought a Harness to help get her up and down but, have not used it so far. I have found that she can get up into the car and up steps easily and more safely than when I help. I don't let her jump down out of the car. I lift her down. She has absolutely no trouble walking or running.
Couldn't be more pleased with her. She is a real trooper.
Sorry for no pictures - I haven't figured it out yet.
Hoping the good news continues ---
great update, glad gigi is doing so well!!!
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
That is terrific! Glad to hear she's doing so well. Many dogs take longer than that to recuperate, especially when having chemo so soon after surgery (which is a more recently-recommended protocol).
I know that a lot of oncologists who don't practice holistic medicine aren't really supportive of changing a dog's diet while battling cancer, because so far the jury of Western Medicine is still out on exactly how foods affect cancer. However, lots of holistic-minded vets and pawrents do believe that an anti-cancer diet can help give a dog a better, longer quality of life so that's something to consider. I wouldn't change her diet without talking to your vet, but you may want to check out anti-cancer diets like this one recommended by Dr. Demian Dressler, the Dog Cancer Vet. Even if we can't scientifically prove that the diet helps fight cancer, at least you know GiGi will be eating super healthy!
Give her a hug from us, this is wonderful news.
Oh and here are instructions for adding images to your post.

GiGi is a star healer! It's always good to hear about the pups who recover so quickly.
on the X-rays- one question to ask yourself is: would I do anything differently if there are visible mets? if the answer is yes, you would change the treatment plan, then maybe X-rays are a good idea. If the answer is no, I wouldn't change anything then maybe you skip the X-rays. I used this strategy when deciding on tests for Maggie.
I hope GiGi continues to do well.

Glad to hear things are going so well! These Tripwads are amazing and inspirational, aren't they?
I understand what Karen is saying and it makes good sense. However, my opinion (for what it s worth) is that chest x-rays eased our worries somewhat. We always felt we would rather know what we were facing than guess at what could be.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Glad to hear Gigi is doing well.
We did an xray after 3 rounds of carbo - the thinking being we might try a different drug if it wasn't working. So, as Karen says, you probably only want to do the xray if it would mean trying something different.
Keep up the good work, GiGi!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. This is great! I'm glad to hear that GiGi is doing well with the chemo! Excellent update!
Here's a post I did that may help you figure out how to post pics. First, you'll need a place to host them (like Facebook or Photobucket). This post is directed at Facebook users.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
