Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share with you all an amazing gift that I received today. I've had a long-standing blog about my dogs. My readers got together and commissioned a painting of my beloved K, a chocolate lab with osteosarcoma.
I am very gradually learning that although we didn't get the miracle of beating K's cancer, we have received the miracle of love and friendship along the way. That includes all of you who have been so supportive for the relatively brief time that we've been part of this tripawds community.
I still can't figure out how to paste a figure into a forum post so here's the URL where I have the painting posted: http://romp-rol.....itude.html
Thanks to all of you,
KB
K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.
That is absolutely gorgeous!!!! What a precious and wonderful gift to have received! Awesome Pawsome!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Wow, that is gorgeous! Such an amazing gift!
We didn't get the miracle either, but we made a lot of new really good friends who helped us get through the tough times. If there is any bright spot in this rotten cancer journey, it's that.
Jackie, angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Wow- that is stunning! People who understand the bond you form with your pups are just the best.
There really are so many lessons to be learned on the cancer journey with our dogs- if we are open to them. Friends, support, appreciation for each day...
I was fortunate that we did get one miracle- Tripug Maggie beat mast cell cancer after a original prognosis of 6 to 9 months. But cancer did take her from me just 3 months after the second cancer diagnosis. What I learned the first time around, the friends I made and the support I got here got me through the second one.
Karen and Spirit Maggie
What generous friends and such a loving gesture. Kbear was beautiful!

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
what a beautiful likeness. a treasure.
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
What a beautiful portrait of a beautiful dog.
Thanks for sharing.
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Beautiful painting of K!!! What an awesome gift!
One thing I have learned from this unwanted OS journey is that our dogs live in the moment. Charley reminds us everyday that he is living with cancer, not dying from cancer. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "Today is a gift. That is why we call it the present."
Hugs and chocolate labby kisses,
Ellen & Charley
