Best wishes for a perfect procedure and complete speedy recovery! Perhaps DD shouldn't be spending weekends in Lost Wages if he's concerned about expenses.

Good news! The vet just called and Max just finished his surgery; the nurse is giving him a laser treatment (to prevent swelling, I guess?) before they bring him out of anesthesia. The surgery went very quickly and easily! His kidney levels were a little high, so they're giving him lots of fluids, plus antibiotics and painkillers, and I'll be able to bring him home a little bit before suppertime tomorrow.
I even managed to work things out with DD over email today while I was at work, so hopefully we'll be able to just relax tonight and give Sammy (our resident monkeydog) some extra love and attention. I've had the attention span of a gnat with ADD today, worrying about Max, so it will nice to be able to get some rest.
Thanks a million to all of our tripawd friends for your kind words and well-wishes. I have no clue where we'd be if we hadn't found you guys, and I can only hope that Max and I can continue to return that same kindness to everybody else who goes through what we're dealing with. <3

YAY!!! That's fantastic news!
Rest, rest, rest now! You are going to need it!
Let us know when Max gets home!Â
Sending tons of healing wishes to Max!

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
It's official: Max is home from the hospital and doing just great! He looks a little funny with such a huge bald patch surrounded by long fur, and he's a little loopy from the Fentanyl patch, but he hasn't stopped smiling since they brought him into the clinic lobby to see me.
I posted more in Max's blog, including his first official tripawd photo and a pic that shows the incision, which looks MUCH better than I was expecting!
Tonight, we're just going to take it easy, and I'm going to try my hand- for a second time- at making some pill pockets from scratch while Max naps. (I'll definitely share the recipe if it works out!)
Thanks a million to everyone who has sent good thoughts and supportive comments for Max, I don't know what I would do without all of my Tripawds friends here <3

We'd be smiling too! Hope they at least cut it in half for such a small guy.
Welcome Home Max!

Awe yes, the power of the fentanyl patch. I remember it well. A 150lb Cane Corso tripping out on morphine is not for the faint of heart
I'm so glad sweet little Max is back home where he belongs. I'm really looking forward to hearing all about his life as a tripawd.
Thanks for the update.
That's great news he is home!Â
He sure looks great!!

I am very happy to hear that Max is doing so well. You must be so relieved to have him home. He is a handsome little guy! Sparky has already figured out that he is even more of a babe-magnet now than he ever was before. His Dad can't wait to start taking him out for walks again  I bet MarvyMax knows how to turn on the charm too!
Day 2 of recovery, and had a bit of a scare... I had two doctor's appointments of my own today, and when I came back from the second one, I found that Max had coughed up blood serveral times. Eek! We ran him to the ER, which is connected to the clinic where he had the surgery, and they got him checked out for us. Turns out that the Metacam has probably given him a stomach ulcer, so we're discontinuing that (he still has the Fentanyl patch until Saturday) and starting him on Prilosec.
Aside from the vomiting and the fact that he's still not really eating, he seems to be doing pretty well, so hopefully Day 3 will get even better 🙂
