My 13 year old "mini" American Eskimo Dog, Tiloup, became a tripawd this past Tuesday, due to an inoperable hemangiopericytoma tumor on his left foreleg. Tiloup was 17 lbs going into surgery, a small and agile little guy with a jaunty, assertive personality. Over the past week or two before the surgery, the rapidly growing tumor was clearly causing pain, and he was barely eating, even turning down canned food (unheard of).
He came home on Thursday evening. When the vet brought him out, I was fighting tears. The vet tech told me he was doing very well, having eaten and walked capably to use the bathroom. It was hard to see him initially, but I was amazed at how bright his eyes were, and well he was getting around, when I first saw him. Once home, he went straight to his food bowl for a good dinner, taking his meds (Rimadyl and Tramadol, and an antibiotic) in the yummy canned food (special treat) I mixed in his usual Nutro premium senior dry food.
Over the past two days at home, he has been hopping along and becoming well balanced on three legs. He was always a very agile dog (American Eskimos are the original circus performers), and loves to jump and leap, so I have to discourage him from over exerting himself (yesterday, he jumped up on the sofa when I was not looking).
I'll add videos and photos later. I'm so glad to have my little guy home and recovering!
Awww welcome Eskie & Tiloup! We're so hoppy to hear that surgery went well and he's bouncing back (literally!). It's not easy to go through the amputation journey but you two are taking all the fear out of it. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Especially because of Tiloup's age, it's exceptionally inspawrational and will give hope to others who find themselves in the same situation (see "Size and Age Matters" for more inspawration).
We would LOVE to see photos and videos. Here are instructions for adding images but if you need more help just holler OK?

I'm so happy to that Tiloup is doing so well in his recovery!!! Our furkids are definitely resilient with adjusting to their new circumstance as you've seen. We would love to see pictures of your precious Tiloup and hear how things are continuing to go. Feel free to ask any questions as we've all been through what you and Tiloup are experiencing now.
Best wishes and I hope things continue to go well for both you and Tiloup!
