First, let me thank everyone who helped to create this community, it's been a great resource for us and will continue to be, I'm sure.
Our beloved Celeste (Lesty) was a shelter rescue 12 years ago and is now about 14. She's in surgery right now for an amp of her front left let due to osteosarcoma, we're waiting for the call to find out how it went. They'll keep her in two nights so we're getting the house ready with lots of extra rugs for traction and old towels and blankets for 'leakage'.
I've been devouring the two books from Tripawds and we're looking forward to this new phase of our lives.

Welcome Colin and Lesty. What a beautiful girl she is. We are front left leg amps too.
What is wrong with her back leg in the picture? Sounds like you've got it covered, reading the Tripawds book and coming to this site will be invaluable. I don't know what we would do without all these kind, giving and understanding people.
Sending you all pawsitive thoughts and energy! Keep us posted!

Hey Colin and Lesty,
Welcome to the family, although I am sorry you are dealing with cancer. Good to hear she made it through surgery and is doing well.
Hopefully with all the reading you have done you have seen that the first couple weeks after surgery can be hard, full of ups and downs. She may come home from the vet feeling pretty good then crash a little, it is a common occurrence here. Stay positive and don't get discouraged. Keep track of the little victories and pretty soon your girl will be amazing you.

Hi and welcome. I, too, am sorry that you are dealing with cancer but I hope this community can be of some help and support to you and your family. Try to be upbeat when you see her. It can be shocking to see them come hopping out to you with the new hop-walk, look her in the eye and concentrate on how happy she is to see you. The first couple of weeks can be difficult, but when you are in the midst of it remember that we warned you and that it is normal. We all survived and you will too. Before you know it Lesty will be stunning you with her resilience. Good luck!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Welcome Colin and Lesty-
Glad you found the site, but wish you didn't have a need to. We are pretty fond of the senior citizens on here so look forward to lots of updates. Sounds like she is doing great and I know she will be happy to be home. Get some rest now as the first couple of weeks can be occasionally sleepless until you adapt to being a tripawd pawrent.
My favorite piece of advice to give is to get an elevated bowl as it makes eating much easier for front amps.
Hugs to Lesty.
Luanne and Shooter
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Welcome...my Sampson is also a senior left front amp, and this site has been wonderfully supportive! Keep us posted on Lesty's progress, and of course post more pictures!
Oh, and Sam will probaby try to hit on Lesty, you know, since she's so pretty, and, well...he's a dirty old man. But just ignore him. He's harmless :p

Thinking of you today. Hope Lesty's surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery. Here's to a speedy, uneventful recovery.
I'd just like to echo Luanne's suggestion for the raised bowls for front amps. Atlas was dehydrated for the first week home and it turns out he wasn't trying to be difficult, it just hurt to lean over. He had a small raised bowl but we went even higher and bam just like that, he started drinking tons of water and was re-hydrated almost overnight.

She's not doing so well today. She needed to stay on the pain meds via drip longer than expected but she has been outside (with a harness). They were worried that she was picky about her food but that's actually quite normal! Still hoping to pick her up tomorrow but that decision will wait until the morning. The house is starting to feel a bit empty. Lesty's little sister, Jan, is wondering where she went, they never been apart this long.
She does already have elevated bowls, we bought them when she started limping but before we knew what it was.
We are all remaining upbeat and looking forward to having her home!
Colin
Colin, we're cheering you and Lesty on. Hang in there, these little challenges are pretty common. She'll bounce back before you know it.
