I am delighted to share that Ajax celebrated his two year ampuversary on July 19 and will celebrate his 10 year birthday tomorrow! He would like to send a thank you to all the tripawds and their humans who have helped him with advice and support over the last two years.
As an update, following an amputation for a chondrosarcoma in 2010 (cured) and surgery plus chemo for a mast cell tumor in late 2011 (treatment completed May 2012), Ajax is medicine and cancer free! We are having a great summer and doing a lot of swimming. The prednisone/palladia treatment weakened the muscles in his remaining back leg by the end of the 6 mos, but after 6 weeks off the medicine and tooling around in the pool, we can already see the strength coming back. In the meantime, we have moved 200 yards closer to Central Park, choosing park proximity over space as we are a Tripawd-ruled household.
Ajax's Dad took some video and as soon as we get it off his phone and onliine, we'll post it - he's running around and swimming.
I have failed miserably in planning our celebration so send any ideas! I think we will settle for a burger tomorrow and maybe a party over the weekend.
Please join Ajax in celebrating!
Oh, that is great news about Ajax!! A double celebration. I hope he has many, many more!! I can't give too many suggestions for celebrations, we're pretty boring here in the Hollenbeck household. We usually like a nice morning at the beach, followed up by a juicy burger. Sometimes the quiet celebrations are the best. Please give Ajax a good belly rub for me, and have a great day!!!!!!
First Happy Ampuversary and Happy Birthday Ajax. And to Ajax's mom, no you have not failed miserably in planning his party or anything else and actually I think you have excelled in caring for him so just enjoy the day tomorrow.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
Two big reasons to celebrate! Congratulations Ajex! As for how to celebrate, sounds like you guys are doing a good job of celebrating every day! I like Maximutt's beach and burger idea.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/

I couldn't have said it better!!! Happy Birthday and Happy Ampuversary!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

That's a lot of great stuff to celebrate. I say, burgers all around!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. TWO YEARS???? WOWWWWW! I remember when you first joined like it was yesterday. You've both traveled so far to get to this amazing point, we salute you on this remarkable, miraculous occasion! Congratulations on beating the odds and making all of those statistics look so darn silly.
Hmmm...ideas for a celebration....how about a dog pawty in Central Park? Treats for every pup in the 'hood! I would love to see what your celebration looks like so post some pics and video!!
Seriously, you and Ajax are just amazing. It's a hoot to be part of this ride, thanks for letting us come along.

Happy 2 year Ampuversary Ajax!!! Sounds like you're having a grand summer and you have your pawrents wrapped right around your paw with moving closer to the park!
Tracy, Maggie's Mom
Maggie was amputated for soft tissue sarcoma 10-20-09
Maggie lost her battle with kidney disease on 8-24-13
Hey everybody! Ajax here. Mom got busy planning a party for my humans (I have a lot of them in the 'hood) and forgot to check back in. She said I was a champion like the people on TV and so I got a new medal/collar with a flag on it so I can be with the rest of the Olympic team.
M dad has lots of pics and videos to post. Some good running and swimming ones for the folks who are worrying before their operation, and some party ones for all my pals here.
The humans didn't get to bring their dogs to my house this time because mom said that 11 dogs was too many for the NYC apartment. I don't know what that means, but all the humans brought presents and I didn't have to share, so it was all good. The humans are silly and seemed to find it unusual that I opened all my own presents. Hmm. Maybe I need to hold a class for all the other dogs. I even got a special treat called "poochini" from a famous restaurant called Shake Shack. It had a bone treat, then ice cream, then peanut butter! Crazy good. My mom almost stole it from me and at it herself but I had a talk with her about that.
Thanks everybody for the good wishes! My Tripawd Ajax coasters were at the party and everybody loved them. I had cocktail napkins with paws, but I couldn't find a tripaw one.
Also, mom says three things:
1. Thanks to everyone on this site for getting her through the last 2 years
2. If anyone is reading this who is having an ampuversary, congratulations to you! Mom spent too much time on my party and has to work now instead of reading on the site about everybody.
3. If you are reading because you are about to have an operation and looking for some good news, here it is: I have had a GREAT time being a tripawd and everybody loves me extra special and all the tourists who come to NY want to get their picture taken with me. Might have employed this tactic sooner to get more treats if I had known ....
4. Rumor has it that In 'n Out burgers are coming to NYC ...stay tuned.
HI Ajax!
Happy ampuversary and Happy Birthday!!! Here's to many, many more to come!! Enjoy - we will celebrate with extra treats in honor of Ajax!!!!
All our Best
Suzie and TWP Rizzo
ps.....In and Out is coming to NYC....awesome!!!!
