We keep marching on! It's 17 months for Jackson today! WAHOOOOOO!!!! We're celebrating mighty high because..... about 2 weeks ago I successfully defended my PhD thesis and I hoped that Jackson would be here to also celebrate. I included pics of my boy in my Acknowledgment slides and cried with tears of joy when I reached those slides. I didn't think we'd make a year. I didn't think we'd make it through a winter. I didn't think he'd be here when I became a PhD. BUT HE DID and he's AWESOME!!!
Sometimes I think he's slowing down. Then again, we've been partying a lot around here. So much so that he stopped greeting people at the door and stayed on his palatial bed for extra naps. It took him like 3 days after all the family and friends left to finally pick up a toy to play! This boy partied hard! Is it mets? Maybe. Or, he's feeling his age! He is a 9.5 year old tripawd. There are no symptoms or signs of anything brewing. But we all know that fear that's inside us... I try to be realistic. This community helps that.
Here's a photo of him all cuddled up and cozy in his fort: his camping mattress, topped with his beloved down comforter, a blanket, and encased under a tablecloth. Comfy guy!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Congrats Jackson on your 17th month ampuversary and Congrats Katy on your PhD!!!!! What absolutely fantastic accomplishments for you both!!

JAAAAAAAAACKSN!!! KAAAAAAAAAATY!!!!! SEVENTEEN MONTHS AND A PhD!!! GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS EVERYBODY!!!
I LOVE that you had Jackson in your slide show! guarantee their were others with tears in their eyes too!!
I'm sure the partying and the socializing tires the boy!! Yeah...9 1/2 AND a tripawd...yeah, slowing down and wanting to rest more is a very, very natural process!! isn't it WONDERFUL to see a tripawd on this site become a touch more mellow because of getting OLDER!!! YAAAAAAAY JACKSON!!
I love his comfy little "camping" spot...quiet, safe, cozy and still staying close to his pack!
We celebrate with you and Jackson today! Wonderful milestones foryou both! And Jackson, you keep on keeping on sweet boy!! You are such an inspiration...such a journey of hope!
STANDING OVATION GOING ON OVER HERE!!!
Sending lots of love and hugs!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Hoppy Ampuversary Jackson. Way to go both of you. 17 months is so awesome and a PHD in the family. What a great thing. I am with Sally about the slide show. You both have amazing feats to celebrate. No wonder J is tired I would be too after all that partying. Keep going Big Guy. We love you

Thank you all, SO much! We're pretty excited! I'm glad to have this degree almost put to bed, but the stress doesn't end here: I'm on the job market. What joy! It's exciting and fun, but having to wait and wait and wait is really stressful. I didn't defend in time to participate in the grad ceremony. I'll have to wait until next May...if I still want to. At that point, I may not. So there's sadly no cap or gown for any of us. Jackson would have looked oh so handsome, I agree!
It's a lovely day here so we just took a nice long walk around the block. He loves the spring! Jackson loves to sniff it all in and roll in whatever shade he can find. Oh, the small pleasures....
FYI - I'll be posting in another week or so about his urine tests. I think all the veggies I've been giving him have turned his urine quite alkaline which enables crystals to form and remain. He's not getting any veggies for about 2 weeks and then we'll retest. He feels fine! Alkaline urine doesn't bother him - just the grasses outside.
HUGS to you all!
