Today is Lily's 15 month ampuversary, and I don't know what I would have done without all of you. We had an "interesting" week. As some of you know, I have been concerned about Lily's excessive panting for quite awhile. I decided to take her over to Univ of Penn Vet School(HUP) last week. They were wonderful-Lily saw an oncologist and internal medicine dr. But my shy greyhound was not a happy camper, so that will be our last visit there--it took her 5-6 hours to calm down afterwards. It was worth the visit though. My vet had put her on high blood pressure medicine because of findings in her urine, and HUP didn't think that was it. We obviously couldn't do a blood pressure there, because she was too worked up-so I had a wonderful mobile vet come yesterday, and no high blood pressuresmiley HUP also feels (and so does the mobile vet) that she has hypothyroidism-they sent tests to Univ of Michegan, which they feel will show it. The mobile vet told me last night that that will cause the panting (said it's like hot flashes) She also took Lily off the rimadyl and put her on Boswellia Complex and Dasuquin for pain and to help repair her joints. So we'll find out this week about her thyroid-I feel badly that noone caught this before now. Also she's off the psyllium and on organic pumpkin and sweet potatoes

Lily is doing well (liked the mobile vet so much better) and we are celebrating today with ear scratchies, healthy treats, words of love, and stuffies all around her. We want to kick cancer's butt out of the ballpark!!

Please celebrate with us-we are so thankful for all of you.

Joan and Lily aka Miss March

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

Happy 15 Months Miss Lily!  Other than those bothersome panting incidents, it sounds like you are doing pretty darn well!  I hope you and your Mom have a wonderful celebration day!!

Congrats and happy ampuversary! I love these stories.  They are such an inspiration for our journey.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Joan and Lily_Wow-what a great (considerig the daen circumstances) journey you two are sharing!  Lots of time to love amd spoil and love amd spoil---ad lots'more to come!

Your photo Ms. Liliy captures your exquisite gentle spirit topped off with perhaps  an adventurous soul that likes to pop out every mow ad then!

Looks like yhey'll be able to get'those panting "hot flash-like" symptons under control. Hat's a small hurdle compared to everyrhing that brave girl has overcome so this will be a piece of cake!

Take care of yourself while you are taking care of Lily!!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Lily you are AMAZING! Congratulations my dear! We are thrilled to hear you're doing so well.

I have to applaud your Momma and your vets, you have a really great team on your side there Lily. I like the switch to Boswellia Complex and Dasuquin rather than the NSAIDs (our Nutrition blog has information about Boswellia if anyone is interested). I'm curious about the dosage, how much are you getting?

As for sweet potatoes and pumpkin...yum! Are you just eating them in your regular meals or as treats? Does your Momma steam them? I'm nosy!

Thank you all so much:) Miss March (promise I'll stop that when April 1st arrives) is taking 2 Dasuquin with MSM daily for a month and then 1 daily for maintenance. Boswellia is 1 every 6-12 hours as needed for pain. She also takes Proviable. She had about 1 1/2 tsp organic pumpkin with her meal (may also make frozen treats). Also the vet said to bake a sweet potato(organic) and scoop out a spoon or two for her food or treat. The vet also mentioned a mushroom or mushrooms  that are supposed to be amazing for osteo-cancer--can't find the name, but I'll email her and post later. Thanks so much--still waiting for the tests results from Univ of Michegan for thyroid--would love to help the panting!

Thanks for being there:)

Ah, OK, thank you for sharing this information, this is good to know. What is Proviable? And would you be interested in writing a guest blog post for our Tripawds Nutrition blog about Lily's story and nutrition regimen? If so, PM me. No pressure, I know you're busy but I really like the way you are exploring all of your options with holistic and traditional meds.

Proviable is a probiotic for the intestines--both our furbabies are on it. I will PM  you about the guest blog. I'm so busy with teaching right now, but I'm having foot surgery the beginning of June and will have plenty of time to sit and do a blog then. I'll pm you when I'm ready. Hope you don't mind me waiting--I may be able to add even more by then. I want to find out more about the mushrooms and acupuncture.

Thanks, I hadn't heard about Proviable. We always like knowing about new probiotics, what made you choose that one?

No problem waiting to write the post, we totally understand.image-2586253-10379777

Go Lily! Happy, hoppy March to you! Glad you're on the case, researching what is going on and getting things under control. Don't spend any more time feeling badly that you don't know what's causing the panting. Lily's not telling so how would you know? You have a plan, and that's what matters. Let us know how the blood work turns out.

Aw, sweet Lily, Happy Happy Ampuversary!  Mom, you know how special Lily is to me - I think of you guys often.  Keep up the good work!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
