thats GREAT that he's laying on his amp side!! A good sign for sure!! You will see each day just gets better and better and better!!!!
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Wow like Erica said, laying on the amp side is a remarkable sign of progress.
As for the e-collar. Well my only experience is with doggies and I know that when they get going on the licking they're hard to stop. Keep an eye on Cashie, I'd hate for him to have to back to the hospital to get re-stitched.
Good job Mamma!

And if it isn't the needs of your newly tripawd cat that wakes you in the middle of the night, it is your 3 year old human.
Good news - Cashie had finished all the food we had put out for him so while I was up anyway, I refilled his bowl, which he lapped up quickly and even ate a few of the chunks. He stood for about a full 30 seconds and even came off his blanket to where I was sitting. Incremental improvements make us so happy. He doesn't seem to be in any distress or discomfort, I am not sure I'll give him pain meds tomorrow. Still no poop, but I am not that worried as he has had pain meds everyday since Sunday. His food intake and water intake (and urine output) are great. When he came to us in 2008 he weight 16 lbs, he was a fatty! He has hovered around 9 to 9.5 lbs for quite sometime now, when we brought him home on Tuesday he was just 7 lbs, so I am hoping that his food intake and his recuperation sedentary status increases that weight. I'd be thrilled with a gain, any gain! His hind leg is a little shaky when he stands, but the better he feels, the longer he will stand and the stronger his leg will become.
I was out tonight at a seder at our church, it felt really good to get out and I hadn't realized how deeply this incident has impacted me, so traumatic for him, so traumatic to find him in the yard, to remember the images of him panting - seeing the sheer terror in his eyes and of course his mangled leg. And my overwhelming protective feelings and my downright murderous intentions to ALL raccoons. All of these feeling are so fresh and the further we get from the incident the less intense they will become, we are thrilled with his progress.
Thank you guys so very much for all of your encouragement, it gives me so much comfort to be able to come in here and share the minutia. His surgery was completed at 1 pm on Tuesday so we are well into the 3rd day post op.
I took Cashie into my daughter's bedroom. He sat with me purring and then hopped around for a bit, came back. Then he headed over to the chair and went under. So cozy. I went over to clean out under her bed, he followed shortly and went under. He sat for a minute or so. Then he came out and sat for a second. The door was wide open and he hopped right on through and hung in the hall for a second and then headed back to his cozy bed in the bathroom. So so so thrilled. We were in there for a total of 5 minutes.
Progress.
I worry a lot about his stamina and ability to navigate this old house and to move quickly out of the way of the kids running around. But one day at a time...
Great news!!! That's definitely progress!!!Jill is a bit younger (9) but she now has no problem running away from my parents three pound VERY energetic poodle!

You're on a great path, it sounds like things are just going to get better and better. One week from today you'll look back and be so proud of Cashie. And yes, as terrible as a situation like this is, you come through it stronger and more enlightened than you ever thought possible. Watching an animal overcome adversity just changes you for the better.
Hooorrrraaay for Cashie!

Hi! I'm sorry for why you are here but this is definitely the right place to be! My cat is 1 month post front leg amputation. They recover so fast it's hard to believe, really. Sebastian is 7 so I'm not sure if the age difference is a big deal, but he got his stamina back completely. There was a period from maybe the 3rd day to the 7th day where he was really exhausted, then he got more energy but still liked to sleep a lot, and then he was like normal. Give your little man some time and hopefully he will be the same!
And it's AWESOME that he pooped!! It's the simple things that make us happy, right?
Goodness! Just caughtupmnnyour thread just in ti e to CELEBRATE POOP!!! YAAAAY Cashie! Yo are doing great...one day at a tkme.-.take it at yor own pace and yoj'll do f e!
God job mom!!
HUGS!
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Hi Cashie's Mom
My tripawd is ten year old chocolate lab but he loves kitties
Cashie's energy will come back - I'm sure. In his case, not only did he have the amp but the sudden traumatic injury that lead to the surgery.
It sounds like Cashie is doing wonderfully - peeing, pooping, purring, wandering around...
Hurray for Cashie.
Give him some snuggles for us

Thank you all so much!!!
I brought him to my daughter's room again and he went right under her bed and didn't want to leave. I felt bad but he isn't ready for the big wide world of the house yet, so I was able to get him back to the bathroom. I moved some things around as he had the litter box and food literally right next to his bed, the liter box is 6 hops away and the food is now 3 hops away.
Today we are going to my in-laws for Passover, I am worried as we will be gone for many hours. Not sure if I should skip all together or go later so he isn't alone for so long.
Thanks again everyone for your support! This community is simply wonderful!!!
Sounds like small steps (hops) is what he needs. Don't feel badly for going to your in-laws, oftentimes all a recovering Tripawd wants is for their people to stop doting over them so they can relax. He'll be fine. Enjoy your Passover celebration.

Thank you everyone, I am going to top off his food, clean his liter box, freshen his water and hit the road. He climbed into the bath tub again and hopped right out when I found him. It is REMARKABLE how well he is doing, I mean really. Oh and I was wrong on his age, he is FIFTEEN.
ETA: His left hind leg was also injured in the altercation, and he doesn't lick that leg. It is interesting...if I try to touch it, he pulls away but does not clean it for some reason. But he is using it quite well. He is all snuggled up and cozy and we are on our way!
He came down the stairs!!!!!!!! It is a little wild down here, so he tried to head back up the stairs...he got hung up a bit so I carried him up. He really wanted to be down here with me, so we came down and I put him on our bed. And then I worried that he would try to jump down from the bed, so I put him on the floor. The kids were still awake so he was a bit skiddish and tried to jump on the bed, it didn't go so well, so I helped him up the last few inches. He is now cozied up on our bed with me.
So much progress!!
