I wanted to post an update on my dog Katie's front leg amputation (6/21/2021).  Katie is a large white German Shepherd and I couldn't imagine what it would be like for Katie to experience the amputation and to live with 3 legs, the decision to amputate was difficult but the decision to pursue 6 rounds of Chemo even more so.  We were told without the amputation, Katie would only live 2-3 months and with amputation and chemo the life expectancy would be 10 - 14 mos.

Katie recovered remarkably well from the amputation, the surgeon said her incision site and recovery was in the top percentile (I attribute the success to the Surgery Suit!)

Last Chemo was in December and Katie did well up until the last treatment but with a short stay and extra fluids she recovered well.

She is doing an amazing job, now 8 1/2 years old, she moves along really well and can build up some speed.  Manages the ramps well and we use the harness to help her up and downstairs.  She has also resumed jumping up on the couch for T.V. time!

All of Katie's beautiful white fur has grown back and we are enjoying every moment we have with her.  We are nearing the 13 month mark and know everyday is a gift.  She has earned being treated like a Princess and that is exactly how we treat hersp_hearticon2

This amazing forum provided me with the "tools" to ready us for the surgery and the recovery (knowing what to expect and look out for was critical) and I would be more than happy to help people with their journey.
