In August of 2015 we lost our almost 14 year old lab/chow/border collie mix girl, Esme Squalor, to cancer. It went undiagnosed until she couldn't get any air and we rushed to Pet Emergency- metastatic lung cancer filled her lungs. It felt sudden and brutal, and a big piece of our hearts went with her. We miss her still, with a deep pain; she was really one of a kind. In March of 2016, while looking at shelter photos online I spotted a sweet, young black face that reminded me a lot of a young Esme. As I scrolled through her photos I saw she was a recent amputee, at 7 months old. Her history was sad and brutal: living in a homeless camp with a shattered leg that became deeply infected she wa finally unable to walk and her owner carried her to the local shelter for help...our adventures with Gracie began the day we met her. There was no way we were leaving her at the shelter! This began our life with Gracie-the-three-legged-wonder-dog!
