Oh gosh! Being 3-legged makes Wolf more special! That's how you have to explain it to your 10 year old. And it's true. I, myself find that being different whether in a human or furbaby - it makes them unique. I think I would have loved having a 3-legged dog as a 10 year old! She'll be the coolest kid now!
Can they swim, play or be fun? ..........Harrummmmmp! I had a three legged dog for 12 years and she was a happy firecracker! (birth defect to the front leg - it was deformed) They can do it all! You are probably more concerned with whether or not they are happy three legged? Our Comet sure was happy and boy was she adorably spoiled! She used it to her advantage!
Try not to worry, it will be okay and you'll have a wonderful life with Wolf!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Wishing you an uneventful surgery!
Now you will have another day for celebrations- Ampuversary Day...Thats where tripawds get extra treats and everyone will say "Hoppy Ampuversary Wolf!"
Keep us posted!
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Good luck with the surgery. Keep us posted!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
It may be his last day as a quad- but it is also his last day with a useless, painful leg!
And for Cameron- I'm glad you are smiling now! Let Wolf rest after surgery- he might not feel good for a week or two, it is really important for you to be happy and positive when you are around him- if you act like everything is OK then Wolf will know it is OK! My little pug Maggie was a Tri-pug for almost 4 years. She was happy and did all the things she did before surgery. I was always very close with Maggie- but after her amputation we got even closer. She was my heart dog- do you know what that is? That means your very best pal- I bet Wolf will be your heart dog!
You might look at some post amp pictures to prepare you for what Wolf might look like when you pick him up. You can find some HERE, scroll down until you get to the Surgery and Treatment Pics.
Good luck with the surgery tomorrow, let us know how he is doing.

And if I may put my Moderator hat on for a moment- you might consider starting a new thread in this forum when you bring Wolf home- maybe with a title like 'Wolf update, home from surgery'. It helps other members see where you are in the process. You can stay here too if you prefer- you will have your hands full when Wolf comes home!
Oh Wolf, your name suits you so well!
Good luck tomorrow my friend. Take it easy, you'll have lots of fun when you're all recovered. Swimming, running, playing, fetching, you name it. Nothing slows a Tripawd down!
