The vet called this morning with results from Roxy's mouth and lymph node biopsies, and it turns out to be my worst case scenario.
They came back positive for oral fibrosarcoma, with the lymph nodes being positive for fibrosarcoma metastasis.
The treatment for that would be switching from carboplatin to doxycycline and re-evaluating every two weeks. She seems to do well with chemo so far with no side effects, so I am going to try that as our first choice. If things change, we will look at metronomics .
I am so friggin' sad and angry right now. She is still acting like herself and eating great. The last few days she's been even more energetic. I was hoping this was just going to be an infection that would go away... but apparently not.
OH Mica, I am so so sorry. ((((((((((hug))))))))). I hate this blasted freaking disease. Roxy is a fighter. We will continue to say our prayers for you & your family. Fight on Roxy.
Hugs

We need a yelling smiley here because I just want to yell so loud. I'm so sorry Mica, I had hoped it would be better news.
You and Roxy are both strong ladies, you can handle whatever comes next. For whatever reason cancer is just being mean but I know you can give it the ol one two and knock it to the moon.

STUPID STUPID STUPID EFFING EFFING CANCER
that's all I really have to say. I'm mad and angry on your behalf. not fair.
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Oh Mica---...you have every reason to have a "mush brain" right now.
I'm of gonna even tell you to slow down and breath right now because I think if I can't even do it myself right now, how could I possibly ask you to?
When you can, do your research on the "other" chemo and any and all options available.
The best measure of what's going o. with Roxy is now she is acting! Clearly Roxy feels great and no different diagnosis changes that! Not one bit as far as she's comcerned! Roxy is loving her life and living it to the fullest every single second.
I think the fact that she has been feeling extra good recently is Roxy's way of letting you know she's getting on with living just fine and has NO intention of goi g anywhere anytime soon! You hang onto that thought Mica!! Hang into it! It is Roxy's stand on this whole pile of crap! And she's not taking any crap from anything!
Okay, we'll bypass the breathing thing for now because I think Roxy's message works better! Go over and hug that sweet face, smile at her and watch that tail wag!! What a beautiful wag that is!
We love you and Roxy so much!
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Mica - I'm so so sorry to hear about Roxy - it's just not fair that she has to deal with this awful stuff on two fronts. And I totally understand that sadness, anger, kick-in-the-gut in the feeling you're experiencing. It's just terrible.
But, it's awesome that she's feeling extra-good right now and handling chemo well! Try to focus on that. I think Roxy is telling you she wants to kick both of these cancers square in the teeth.
Not fair at all. My pug Maggie dealt with two cancers too. I remember thinking "really? losing a leg isn't enough?". Give yourself time to process, then get that positive, Be More Dog thing going again. I know it is hard, it was for me, but Roxy needs you to be a strong pack leader for her. I would take my cues from Mag- she didn't know anything new was wrong and went on with her obstinate pug life.
Come her to vent and get all the strength you need to face this new challenge.
Karen
Mica and Roxy - It just isn't fair. We are here to support you in whatever way possible. We will all be there to help you in this fight.
Shooter and Luanne
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Thanks everyone. Man, I dunno how I'd deal with all this stuff if it wasn't for your support.
I got home from work last night and grabbed Roxy's harness to take her to the park and she was pretty excited to go, so I thought I'd take this video. She clearly doesn't realize or care that she's sick.
