Debra made the point well, none of us know him like you do. You have to make the decision that is right for you and Chipper. I'm praying for the golf ball, lol. I so hope you guys have lots of happy days ahead.

You know Chipper better than anyone and I know you made the right choice for you and him.
Really could not say it any better!!! All you will get from here is support. We have all been there and the right choice is always the same - deep within your heart.

I agree too--you know Chipper best so the choice you made for him is the right one. Bless you for having the courage to change course and do what you felt was right.
I wish you happy, quiet days with Chipper doing the things you both enjoy.

Hey Chipper's Mom,
I'm glad you finally made a desicion that you feel at peace with. That is the most important thing. As everyone has already mentioned here, YOU know your baby best and what makes him happy! A hemipelvectomy is a big deal, on top of the amputation... and as you had already mentioned he already has mets. It was a very good thing to do all the research and to speak to as many friends, family and experts as you can. That's what I did with Jake. Luckily for him, there was no visible metastases yet. His leg was broken, so we only had 2 choices. To put him to sleep immediately, or to remove his leg and give him a chance at some pain-free life... for however long that will be. We were at peace with our decision.
You keep your baby spoiled and happy for as long as he has left. Enjoy every precious moment... take lots of pictures... and just love him! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and I hope that Chipper sticks around for a long time... and surprises the heck out of everyone!

Hi Chipper and Mum
The decision you made makes so much sense and I am glad it feels right. You are right that your situation is different than the one facing most our dogs who have cancer in a certain spot in one leg. Amputation does not always work out well when there are complicating factors.
I am glad Chipper is happily commanding attention as the center of the universe. That is how we like it to be for all of our dogs.

Hi Chipper's Mom,
Just wanted to send my best wishes your way and join in on the chorus. You know Chipper best and made a very difficult decision. For me, I find comfort knowing that I did everything I could, but only what I felt was right. So now -- Happy days, fun smells at the farm and just being together, it's all good.
Best Wishes,
Stacy
We still love you!!! Honorary Tripawd, anyone?!
Seriously, I'm glad you are at peace with your decision. That's hugely important!!! Good for you for listening to your gut and following up with it.
As for the diet, any high quality protein is good (i.e. chicken, turkey, fish, etc.) I also add in veggies and even some fruit, depending on what's in the freezer/fridge/on my plate. Experiment and see what is easy for you and that he likes.
Enjoy every minute with him! Give him a pet from us
