You all made Raven's Mommy cry! Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. I read what your wondrous pets have and are going through and I cheer, cheer, cheer for all of you.
When I read many of your stories before Raven's amputation, I repeatedly ran across the statement "he/she seems not to know the leg is gone; life is back to normal" etc. I really thought it couldn't be true and was some sort of hype...not on purpose, but like "California dreamin," wishing to make it so.
If we had not lived through this with Raven, I wouldn't be believing his story either. He fascinates me the way he has re-invented himself. That front leg is now a "center" leg. He wheels around on his hind legs like a quarter horse working cattle. I watched him pee this morning with his right rear leg lifted...ladies and gentlemen, his right front leg is the missing member...so he was holding all his weight on his two left legs. I know the ground was level which helped a teeny, tiny little...but there he was leaning to the left, standing on two left legs! He weighs 53 lbs. Is anyone else experiencing this with their tripawds and standing in wonder?
Thanks for the good wishes for Wednesday. We'll take them with us in our heart.
Yep, we stand in wonder looking at our tripawd often! We have a girl (also a rt front leg amp) so she doesn't have to lift a leg to pee, but she does other things I never thought she'd do - like go through the doggy door and dig. I didn't think she'd be able to "Shake" anymore since her shaking paw was gone. One day shortly after her amp, I said to some friends, "I guess it was a waste of time teaching her to shake." When she heard the word 'shake', she sat up on her back legs and offered me her remaining front paw. I about fell over. So sweet! So amazing!
[oh, and re: photos... I think the only way to get them into a post is to have them somewhere else on the web - a blog, a photo cache, facebook, etc. - where they have a url. someone will correct me if that's wrong.]
Go Raven! Keep amazing your parents and everyone else who meets you!
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
This is a fabulous update on Raven!
On the pics...
if you have a facebook account and or a blog here, then it is rather easy. Otherwise you have to have a place to upload your pics like shutterfly or photobucket that will host your photos.
After you have done that, I have a tutorial on what to do next step by step, HERE http://tripawds.....8;search=1
and then if you need to know how to insert a youtube video, you can learn how here:
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Applawse! Applawse! This is such great news.
I know, it IS hard to for humans to believe that a tripawd really doesn't care that s/he's missing a leg, isn't it? Until you've been through it, you just really never know. It's a lesson that humans never really want to learn, but one that stays with people forever and changes their whole outlook on life!
I'm so glad you updated. We haven't had many Porties here on Tripawds, so Raven's story is one that I'm sure will be used as an example over and over again for other Portie families.
As for VCA Albuquerque, my friend Eisen had his surgery done there and his mom was so glad they went to that clinic. Eisen, by the way, is still doing GREAT three years after his amputation. We've written about him a LOT here, here's one story that should inspire you some more!
Bravo to Raven! You made our day.
Thanks for explaining the photos posting steps, Comet!

This is such a heartfelt testimony, so common to the experiences here but so well-said. Thanks for the update, we appreciate it!

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
HUGE benchmark day today. Raven got his lungs x-rayed to make sure no nasty cancer cells were living there. HE IS CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!!!!!!! So they administered Chemo #3. Only two more to go over the next six weeks.
As I've recently posted and told his oncologist today, Raven's doing splendidly at home...running around at full tilt (which still amazes us!), stomping on his toys like he has always done, great appetite, bright eyes, waggy tail, high energy...just BEING RAVEN. We're so grateful. And so proud of him. What a Spirit!!!!!
Thank you all for your continued support. I will get to posting photos in a day or two.
Yay! Yay! Yay!
That is GREAT!!!! Go Raven!!!!

You might consider posting in Shout outs with a new topic for his next ampuversary- like I said we like to party! Extra treats for the pups and food and beverages for the two leggers .

We have just learned this morning of my grandpup's "Hallie" diagnosis of osteosarcoma...right rear leg. We are so shocked as we were expecting to be told she had a knee sprain, after a week of a limp that got gradually worse. My daughter has decided to go ahead with the amputation and scheduled it tomorrow. So we are trying to learn as much as we can in such a short period. After reading many posts on this site, we are feeling even more so that we are taking the right course. She is a 6 year old golden mix and what we call our "velcro dog" as she is always right beside one of us. This is so scary, but I think right now we really need to prepare ourselves in order to be strong for her...stick by her as she has always done for us! I was searching on the site for photos that show the after surgery site, but haven't been able to make my way back to them. Does someone know where I might locate them?
Your stories have been very helpful and we will continue to look to tripawds as we make this journey.
Thanks for any help!

Sorry to hear about Hallie, but you've come to the right place for advice and support. Your future forum posts will not require moderation. Be sure to bookmark Jerry's Required Reading List, and consider starting a new topic so members can follow Hallie's progress.
