Hello everybody,
First I apologize for my English, I am Brazilian and not specifically a good English speaker!
I would like to say that tripawd's website and the reports here were encouraging me and my Border Collie named Shaula, who completed 5 weeks of amputated today!
The story of Shaula is long, but I'll try to summarize it:
2 years ago I noticed some small lumps in the right hind leg. Shortly after the biopsy confirmed: Hemangiosarcoma. After done the surgery to remove the nodules, the prognosis of veterinaria could not be worse: 5-7 months (nasty cancer). We try to forget what we hear and follow a normal life, going to the beach, bathing in the sea and playing racquetball with Shaula. Against the stats, she lived very well for two long years!
Two months ago she was licking the same paw... previous examinations found the recurrence of cancer, however all other organs were undamaged. Again marked up the surgery to remove the new nodules, but when the vet made the incision ... called us saying that the cancer was completely scattered and would have to amputation of the entire foot. The post-surgical were terror days. Some moments we thought we had made the wrong choice and that she would never be the same.
Searching the Internet, I found tripawds.com = Salvation!
Reading and watching stories, articles and videos I was delighted... and really think that I'll never forget the energy and strength of Shaula during these difficult times!
The prognosis is still not good, but she does not know it and smiles to life again as if it never existed the fourth paw!!
Thank you!!!

Thanks so much for sharing Shaula's amazing story!! Hemangio is indeed a terrible cancer- most of the stories we hear here are very sad. We have lost friends here to it, sometimes as a secondary cancer.
I'm glad Shaula made it through surgery and is back to her old self- smiles to life again- that is awesome!

Thanks for sharing her story. She's an amazing pup! Both Jackson and I can relate how important a racquet ball is! These boarder collies.... Anyway, I'm glad your vet spotted the damage and hopefully helped relieve your girl of some pain. 5 weeks, wow! Good for you 2! May she beat the stats again. Many good wishes sent your way!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
I am so happy you found this site when you needed it, and I'm delighted you are finding it very helpful! Now you can be part of that and begin helping new members when they need reassurance.
No matter how much time you get with Shaula, it sounds like you are going to make it all wonderful and special. And you are right--she does not know that anything is wrong. As long as you are loving and caring, she will be happy.
(By the way, your English is wonderful!)
