Well, Bonnie is much better mentally and I am trying to get there also. My husband finally has time off, but he cannot take the stress away,
Bonnie still has not tried to walk on her own other that once yesterday when I was trying to get dressed to take her to the vet again. She did not know that I could see her and she stood up and took one step before she fell. I am beginning to wonder if she is embarrassed and I should stay out of sight a little more. It is difficult because I want to be there to catch her.
Metropolitan gave me 50 mg tablets of tramadol and told me to give her 2 tablets every 8-12 hours. I have not given her 2 yet. She seems to be doing fine with one thus far.
We have a rug in the entrance way and that is where she has stayed since she came home. Our vet suggested that we get carpet to put over the tile floor in the kitchen for a couple months tilll she gets her balance. I have not gotten out to do that yet, but have bought Excel 8 in 1 paw protector. I am ready when she is.
I am amazed at her appetite. She is milking it I am sure. I hand feed her a chunk of canned chicken and hide 2 bits of dry behind it. She takes it in her mouth and spits out the dry. 🙂 She also loves dried chicken and duck strips so she get those also. I am trying to only feed her twice a day because of her diabetes, but she would prefer to eat several small meals. Her glucose was 325 so I am trying to get her back up to her full dose of insulin. She takes 34 units normally and got 32 this morning without any ill effects. It is a challenge. I am going to push them to teach me how to take blood so I can do the checks myself on the next visit. I have survived 3 years without that, but I do not want to have to take her out each day to get it checked.
I have sent Jerry some pictures of her pre and post. Now you guys can see what a looker she is! That Dolly Parton chest was her biggest asset and she is going to hate losing it. She has already asked if she can have a push-up bra to help her keep her cleavage. She is a wonderful dog and we are blessed to have her and you guys.
Thanks again

Great pics. Bonnie is a pretty girl.
I don't think she's embarassed about you being in the room - dogs just don't think that way. I wonder if the reason she isn't getting up and around yet is because she is unsure of her footing. If she has fallen once or twice she may be afraid to try again and it could take some encouragement and extra yummy treats to get her moving. When Radar first tried to "lift his leg" and fell over it seemed like a set back and took a couple of days for him to get really moving again. Once he figured out the balance he was OK. Once Bonnie has a bit of success then she can start progressing. Is she getting up to go potty?
We're keeping you in our thoughts Bonnie girl. You'll get the hang of things in no time.
Hugs
Connie & Radar
I think Chris was being "tongue in cheek" about Molly being embarrassed about standing up. I think it's more obvious that she's just not used to being without her famous Dolly Parton "cleavage". LOL
Chris, you've got an extra health problem, besides the cancer, with Molly. I hope they do teach you how to take her blood, so you can do the home-monitoring of her insulin/sugar levels. You are obviously very in tune with her health needs and that would take a lot of guess-work and visits to the vet out of the way.
We love her pictures! Thanks for sharing them, so much. Keep us posted on her progress as much as possible.

Halleluyah! Bonnie pooped and peed. Is there anything more gratifying? She decided on her own, after we had taken her outside to get some sun, to just poop first. I could not believe it! It was beautiful watching her work on the placement of the front leg so she would not dip and dive. Took her quite a while, but she held up. Then she collapsed for a couple of hours and let us know she wanted to go out again. She peed that time and now she is resting, having accomplished making her pawrents the happiest people on the planet.
I am keeping a cold pack on her and she is resting. I am looking forward to learning how to check her glucose so I can keep a better eye on it, especially when chemo starts. Will keep you all posted.
Bonnie and I send our love and kisses (she's doing that again too) to you all.

Congratulations! My people thought it looked like I was trying to balance on a 2x4 my first time. But I got it down pretty quick. Bonnie will too. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go, and ya find a way.

Well, now that we have had time to read many of the other posts, it seems like Bonnie is a slowpoke, but she is plodding along steadily.
She spend most of the day outside just enjoying the sun and beautiful weather. Her dad put up a ramp for the steps so she could take the easy way up. She decided to surprise us and got up and went up the first step beside the ramp. Guess she is trying to tell us she is not the handicapped one. Just seem her pawrents are a little mentally handicapped,
Then, when we thought she was totally worn out and went out of sight to the kitchen to eat dinner, she just showed up! No noise, no bumping, just Bonnie sitting there! I had to count dogs and did not even register that there was only one front leg there. Great surprise!
She has not gone to the bathroom today, but the internist at Metropolitan tells me that dogs with diabetes have huge bladders. Hope that is it. Either that or she is just trying to keep us in suspense.
We are really happy to keep adding good news and hopefully will continue the great results. Thanks to you all for the support.

We've had time to see all your travels, Jerry. You are one lucky dog! Next time you come to PA you will have to celebrate with Bonnie! Maybe join her for a pool party!
Hugs to you from us also. Have a good night as we are hoping we will. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Great news!! Bonnie is just doing things in her own time but it sounds like she is making progress. Absolutely loved the feeling the first time Radar came to us on his own. Makes you want to cry.
Keep trucking Bonnie, you'll get there.
Hugs

Your hugs, kisses and licks must be working. Bonnie is getting more and more independent. She is eating well and has almost mastered centering that front leg. One of her human friends stopped over yesterday evening and I had to slow her down getting to her. Boy that is a relief. She does not walk a lot, but when she does, she does it well.
She is off her Tramadol and is only getting Metacam right now.
I can't thank everyone enough for all your support. We will keep you posted on her progress. Thanks again and love and kisses to you all.
