My girl's case is strange.  Started in the left leg, moved to armpit lymph and to the spleen. Those have all been surgically removed as of 11/10/13.  The surgeon had visual confirmation that there was no other spread that he could see.

Started carboplatin on 11/21/13 and as of 12/30/13, at her first US and xrays since the surgery, there has been spread to the right kidney.  We started with Palladia on 12/30/13.

Her lungs are clear, blood work fantastic, appetite normal, recovery has been amazing and everything else is great.

Oncologists (two in San Jose and one at UC Davis) calls this kind of spread for OS "highly unusual".

Anyone else have odd-acting OS?

Hi Nutmeg, thanks for joining us. Sorry you had to join the osteosarcoma club.

You have a fantastic team on your side! We have lots of Bay Area members, I hope you get to meet them at any of their upcoming get-togethers in Mill Valley later this year.

Meanwhile I'm sorry but I don't have any experience or knowledge about osteo spreading that way. But what I will say is that in the seven years since we've been online we've seen it take many different forms that it normally doesn't. Cancer often does what it wants despite our vast knowledge about how it's supposed to behave. I hope that it can get it under control with the Palladia. How is she handling it so far?

P.S. Your future posts wont' require moderation.

Nutmeg! Love jer name and love her avatar picture!"

Just want you to know we are all jere for you and pretty much in the same boat, regardless of hatever weird path this stupid disease takes.

I know e thing for sure, Nutmeg is clearly a fighter. And the "unusual" path this diagnosis has taken.....Nutmeg is an unusually strong and determkned girl who has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon!

I LOVE that she is feeling great and enjoying life to the fullest!! As youe probablyalready learned on this journey' use Nutmeg as your role model and be more like her! She doesn't care about any ole' stupid diagnosis, not worrying about a thing...just living in the moment...the present...the now! Nutmeg is enjoying every second of all that loving and spoiling you are givi g her! Let NOTHING rob you of this wo derful time together!

Would love, love, LOVE t see more pictures of her and jear more about her! She looks like she may be a senior and she looks gentle as a lamb with a mischievous side to her! How longnhas she "owned" you and hw did it come about that she "picked" you?!

ook forward to supporting you and Nutmeg and sharing in a glorious journey of recovery for an outstanding dog!clap

Hugs to you and Nutmeg!

Hi and welcome to our little family!  I'm sorry you have to join us here :( but you've come to the right place for support!

My kitty Jill also had a "strange" and "highly unusual" presentation of OS (the initial tumor was in her toe), although very different from your pups.  So, I can totally relate to how you feel when the vets say things like "huh...this is odd" and "we've never seen this before".  It can be quite unsettling huh? But it sounds like you are working with a terrific team, which in these circumstances is the best you can ask for!  Everytime an oncologist or pathologist would say something like that to me it was always followed up with...."but we'll see what we can find" or "we'll figure it out" and it sounds like your vets are amazing and handling it the same and so are you!

It's great to hear that her blood work and lungs are all clear!  That's the best news you can keep getting!  Just keep on doing what you're doing and yes PLEASE share some more pics!!!!

xoxo,

Erica & Tripawd Kitty Jill

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. No relevant experience with this and that's got to be so frustrating!  But, at the same time, sounds to me (my very unscientific self, mind you) like your girl has the osteosarcoma running scared, making these strange, desperate moves, which will ultimately fail!  Paws crossed that it's out of tricks now and is going down with treatment!!!

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.

He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

Thank you so much everyone.  We're very very hopeful that the Palladia will give us some quality time with our girl and at least one more major road trip to see all her friends!

We had a rough night last night as she had a tummy reaction to something, so we're on the metronidazole and hoping we can continue on with the Palladia as planned.  I'm hoping it's my fault for trying a new raw food treat and a new glucosamine chewable and not the Palladia!  Apparently raw food with dogs getting cancer treatment is a no-no!! Oops!

Our doctor clarified today that although we should have some hope, the Palladia is basically our last shot since the carboplatin didn't work.  I've read a few different studies that say 40-50% of dogs have tumor shrinkage or at least it stops growing, but we're still not sure how and if it works on osteosarcoma.  So, we're putting all of our eggs in the Palladia basket.  We're going to see yet another Oncologist in a few weeks and we'll get all the xrays and ultrasounds done at that time.

Come on Palladia!!!! Work some magic!

Thanks again so much for your good vibes and love!!

Awww poor girl. Try not to beat yourself up, some dogs do fine on a raw diet while on chemo but some don't. Your vet's advice is the best one to follow so you're both o the same page through. I hope she feels better today.

We have our paws crossed the palladia works!

NOW HEAR THIS!! Nutmeg! We have ALL paws crossed in tripawd land and that's a whole lot of pawsitivity power!!clap

Nutmeg has already proven she's an exceptionally strong and determined girl! "Statistics"' don't take into account the individual dog, thats for sure! And I think vets always speaka from the side of guarded caution...it's must teir ature. Many, many dogs here have been given "short-term" statistics and are still laughing at them years later. Hopefully those individuals will see this and chi e in.

Well known member Pug Maggie was o e of thos who had everything in the world going aganst her, But what she had on ner side?? Being stubborn Pug Maggie a d a lovng mom!

I'm glad you're going for a seco d opinion next week. Its amazing how a new set of eyes can come up with optio s that were overlooked before.

Okay! here's hoping tummy upset was raw food and not the Palladia!!

You are a great advocate for Nutmeg! Remember, she's not worried avout a thing! She's just living in the moment soaking up all your loving and spoiling!!

Now go buy yourself some chocolate and yor most favorite yummy cake! Eat it all at once and you'll feel better!! Or at least you'll be focusing on your own tummy ache and wn't feel like worrying avout a thing!clown

PLESSE keep us posted as soon as you can! When you can, we would LOVE to see pictures of Nutmeg!!

Love nd hugs to all!
