I can only imagine the agonizing decicion.Â
Maybe if you try to put cancer out of your head and just focus on eliminating the pain, then it make it easier. And just remember, if it's not cancer, then all the better! You don't have to worryh about cancer. The leg is a mess and causing intense pain so think of it that way.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Thank you again to all of you amazing beings!
We have gone through every possible scenario, idea, thought, rationale, etc. etc! And we now find ourselves kinda backed into a corner, like there is no where to go except forwards to the surgeon tomorrow. We just only want to do the right thing for Lylee, she is such our girl.
So unless I suddenly get a vision in my sleep tonight not to do it (and depends how much i sleep) we will be proceeding with her amputation tomorrow.
We do this to heal our baby girl.
Keep her in your thoughts and all lines are open for love infusions

Well, we are here for you!Â
Just keep thinking:Â
Leg = painÂ
No leg = painfree
Â
And also remember - dog's don't give a rat's bottom about the cosmetic aspects. They just learn to walk different. No big deal to them. They will chew off their own leg in the wild.

Hello Tripawd family
Just got off the phone with the surgeon, Lylee's amputation went very well. It took four hours, longer than usual because she said there was more atrophy in her muscles and so her veins were harder to work with and so she went slower and more carefully and she also took wider margins of tissue in an area where there was a fluid pocket (could've been from the previous biopsy). And so it also took a bit longer to close her up. Her blood pressure and vitals were all good thru the surgery. I will get to see her tomorrow. It's a relief that she okay.
Thanks again for all the support. I'm not even a tripawd and I've been leaning on you all heavily!

OH! That's great news! I hope you feel better too!
Tomorrow will be a great day when you see Lylee!
Â
Now, please, please get some sleep! You have to be rested or everything in your mind will escalate when she comes home. We see so many moms and dads get sleep deprived and have a terrible time trying to help in the recovery since every little thing will seem major.
Â
GOOD WISHES!

Wonderful news! Comet is right, it is rest time. You need to be rested when she comes home. And to take it one step further. Your natural reaction once she is home is to watch her sleep, when in fact you should be sleeping when she does. You will hear her if she needs you! An exhausted pawrent is an over reactive pawrent.

Just got back an hour ago from visiting lylee girl for the first time since we saw her walk thru the door to her surgery. Well, it's one thing to see other furbabes newly tripawd but definitely a shock to see one's own dog with a huge scar and 3 legs. When I 1st set eyes on Lylee she seemed either in pain or anxious from the fentanyl. After observing her for a while it did seem to be a drug induced anxiety. I got to be with her for 6 hours - they gave us a room with a couch and a bed for Lyla again. I did lots of massages and energy work with her and she slowly relaxed and slept on and off. Her Dad came to see her too and they took a nap together!
This hospital likes to keep their new amputees for 2 or 3 nights as she is still on IV fluids, antibiotics and fentanyl. The plan is to bring her home tomorrow PM.
Thanks again for all the support. Now I just need to get a good nights sleep to be ready for the next 2 weeks 😉

Yes, it is a shock and it just breaks your heart. Worse than breaking your heart, how about ripping it out of your chest? But you are past the first major milestone and you should be proud of yourself. Can't wait til she gets home where she belongs!

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
It's great to hear from you! Last night we were wondering how she is doing.
Oh my Mom almost fainted when she saw me. It was Thanksgiving morning when they picked me up. Dad said I looked like a carved-up turkey!
In time you might come to think of it as a proud battle scar like Bellona does!
How neat you got to spend so much time with her, not too many pawrents do. As for staying 2 or 3 nights, after a 4 hour surgery I think that's a great idea. It also makes it easier for you too.
Now get some sleep OK?

Lylee is home! Finally!
Went over to hospital around noon, they still had her on the fentanyl drip but @ a low dose to wean her off. They then stopped it @ 2pm. She had a fentanyl patch applied last night so that was now keeping her pain free. She seemed very comfortable except understandably exhausted poor girl. She was so happy to get in the car and go home and is now resting comfortably under the table by her Grammy's feet (and she ate her dinner with gusto 🙂

Yipeee! She is kickin' butt just like we knew she would! Yipee!!!
If she starts acting funny, it's probably that crazy fentanyl patch, so be warned. We're here to help if you need it but it sounds like things are going to go just fine.
