We brought him home this morning at 8am. He did very well last night. They told me it got a little cold inside last night, so the one vet tech laid in the cage with him and cuddled him. That was really nice as he loves cuddling. He is definitely heavily medicated and is sleeping right now. Here is a picture of him when I picked him up this morning.
Awwww, he looks terrific. That's a mighty clean looking incision area if you ask me. No bruising either? wow! He looks fantastic.

I'll second that; he looks great-- he even has a spark to him, despite all the drugs.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
He looks great, so much more alert than the photo from right after surgery. I know you are happy to have him home. Thanks for the pictures. I'm sure Jake has a lot of followers who care about him and are relieved to know he is one his way to recovery.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
Thanks - he has some bruising underneath on his belly. He seems to be doing really well. He's gone out several times to pee and pooped once. He ate all of his dinner and appears to be more active too. I'm spending the next couple nights downstairs sleeping with him. Maybe after a week, I'll have him come upstairs to our bedroom.
If Jake has already pooped, you are ahead of the game. Hope you have a quiet night and Jake continues to thrive.

Whoohoo for first poop! That's a big milestone! Treats all around to celebrate!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Last night wasn't bad at all. I gave him his pain meds at 11pm and he only had to go out to pee once at 1:30am. After that he slept pretty much the whole night. He seems to be more alert this morning and wanting to get up more by himself to go out. He even showed some interest in a new toy a bought him. He did poop a second time so thank goodness for that. He has developed a seroma , but its below the incision. Vet said it was okay and incision is leaking any fluid.
It's now been a little over 4 days since Jake had his surgery. I'm pretty amazed at his recovery. After reading the first two weeks post surgery were hell, I was expecting the worst. In reality, he really hasn't shown any signs of pain and is back to resting around the house now like old times. I'm still keeping him confined at night downstairs sleeping with him, but last night he seemed restless and bored with being in the same room again. We have no regrets on having his leg amputated and he gets better each day with walking. I really did find this site helpful and also read the book "Three legs and a spare".
Some folks do get lucky and have super easy recoveries - sounds like you might be in that group. Will keep fingers and paws crossed that his recovery continues that way!

First of all, I need to repeat what has been said, Jake is beautiful!!!
So glad to hear that he is doing so well, keep it up boy! A healthy appetite and pooping is fantastic and definitely cause for celebrations. Its amazing what we dance and celebrate over and they just look at us like we are nuts and its no big deal. Keep us posted on his progress! Hope everything else has settled down for you all a bit.
